Want to make custom RGB LED system in CM Haf X full tower case, No NZXT HUE.

Hello guys! I've got a case that could use some custom RGB lighting. The NZXT HUE isn't really reaching throughout the case where I want to go, and I actually had a specific idea in mind with custom lighting, and am willing to create my own if someone could give me links on how to do it, etc etc.
See the lighting in the front of the case? That's the kind of lighting I was hoping to get, and a NZXT HUE RGB strip can't do that.. too fat.

PS. That case is the same model as mine! smile.gif

If the NZXT hue strips can't do that, have you taken a look at the BitFenix Alchemy sets?

Here's a link to one of their strips on Newegg : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811997067

Obviously, you can choose different sizes, colors, etc. Just something to think about!

On the front, you could incorporate EL wire to achieve a similar effect.

Kinaesthetic, this EL concept looks promising, is it possible to buy RGB EL wire? My main requirement is that the color can be changed via controller.

EL wire is very dim, and it's single color. I'd recommend RGB 5050 size strips with the 44 key controllers available all over EBay. You can cut them every couple inches and add 4 wires to allow them to go around corners and remain flat. Just get a 5m roll of them and go to it. If you want a little more diffuse lighting, wrap some scotch tape or rice paper over the strips once they're in place.

Thanks! smile.gif I was actually going to look into that, that seems to be the best option for me. And What do you mean add 4 wires? As in, cut the strip, then solder in some wiring so the bulky rubber coating doesn't get in the way?

If you stick the strip down to a surface, it won't remain flat when you bend it 90 degrees to go around a corner. If you cut it at the pads, scrape off some of the coating, and solder in place a short (as needed) piece of 4 conductor wire, you can keep the rest of the strip segments flat. There are also connectors from HitLights that do the same thing, but I prefer to just solder the connections and heatshrink it.

TLHarrell, wouldn't you need to cut the 16.24 foot LED strip and solder the connectors to it?

They initially come with a short section of 4 conductor wire attached to one end of the RGB strip. If you want to make a flat bend around a corner, or add a piece of wire to skip lighting an area, you'll have to add in a section of 4 conductor wire. Your options are to solder bare wire to the small solder pads at the cut points, or use some sort of snap on connector like HitLights has.

Note the lower three pics. There is a cut line every three LEDs. You cut the middle of the copper pads, strip off the epoxy coating at that point and reconnect with wire or connectors.
