GTX 560Ti DX11 problems

My fiancée's desktop is our only gaming computer currently, and recently it's been giving me a hassle.

She installed Banished, it worked for a short period of time, but now it refuses to work. At the same time it failed out, BF3 started giving me crap and wouldn't play properly, kept crashing.

I fixed BF3 by deleting all the CAB files in the directX folder, and tried the same with Banished, no luck.

It refuses to install from the standalone, and gives a DirectX error message when I attempt to run it through Steam.

The reason I am posting in here, is because I am curious as to whether or not the issue stems from her system.

The error window I get is:

"A fatal error has occurred and the application cannot continue.

VideoDX11: Could not initialize the swap chain!
VideoDX9: The application failed to failed to create a DirectX9 device. (Yes, it says failed to twice)
VideoDevice: Failed to load or initialize a video interface!"

Here;s the excerpts from belarc detailing the rig:

Intel(R) HD Graphics [Display adapter]
NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 [Display adapter]
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 [Display adapter]

Samsung SMB2430L [Monitor] (23.4"vis, s/n PU24HVDZ201998, February 2010)
TOSHIBA-TV [Monitor] (31.5"vis, October 2010)

The 560 is in the top slot, and the 220 is below. The 220 is only in the system for running the third monitor.

The reason I am suspicious of the graphics cards is the fact that (as far as I know), the 220 is NOT DX11 capable. From what I am seeing, the only thing I can think of is that the system is trying to run DX11 through the 560, and getting feedback from the 220, causing it to try and revert to DX9 and failing.

The GPUs run fine, and will play anything i throw at them quite happily, though the 560 gets a bit noisy on BF3. I have clean wiped the drivers, gone to the newest ones out there (335), wiped the game out, reinstalled it, manually deleted the CAB files so it got new ones, nothing works.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to check if it's the GPUs causing the failure? My next idea is to rip the 220 out and try running it that way. Though my fiance is not happy with that method, since she uses the three monitors for her art and web design work.

(If this can go somewhere else and be a better fit, feel free to yell at me too.)

DirectX setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of DirectX has been installed already. No installation is necessary.

As I indicated in my first post, I do not believe that it's a DirectX issue. I've gone through all of the updates through Windows Update, everything else that I have tried runs fine. It's only this one game, where it's trying to pass back and forth between DirectX11 and DirectX9.

I'm going to pull the 220 later. Looks like it's the only option right now.

Okay, found out a bit more.

She turned the game from full-screen to windowed, then tried to change the resolution. That's where the issue started.

You could use the integrated graphics of the CPU for the third monitor. You have to manually enable it in the BIOS of the board. The "Auto" setting usually disables the integrated graphics when the board sees a real graphics card installed.

Afterwards, booting into Windows, you should see a generic display adapter in the Device Manager next to the GTX 560 Ti. Windows Update should download the Intel driver in the background and install it within a few minutes. At this point, it'll work and you'll be able to connect the third screen to the motherboard.

Well if you think its the 220 then why dont you take it out and see?

Kind of a dumb question but have you tried uninstalling the game, COMPLETELY, leave no files behind. Then reinstalling?

You can all so run the game on the 220 just to see if its broke in any way.
