They plug into a special backplane which then has other expansion slots depending on what the user needs. The backplane by itself doesn't have anything except routing for the expansion slots from the CPU PCI-E cards. From their website, they have everything from 4x ISA to 4x PCI-E, and everything in-between. The backplane itself is not an independent computer.

I don't think there even is a host. It's a standalone system.
