My OC made my screen flip around

I have a 7870 OCed to 1125 MHz. I tried to bring it up to 1200 but something kind of scary happened. I know how to OC my GPU using software tools so it's not like I am a noob here. And I do it in small intervals blah blah blah. Anyways I got it up into the 1170 range and started Borderlands 2. I was playing that for about an hour and I forgot that I was OCing. Then in a second my screen got all messed up. It took me a while to realize what happened. The left half of the screen and the right half of the screen switched sides. So the screen was cut down the middle like that. At first I thought that something was wrong with my monitor. Then I remembered the OC and I brought it back down to 1125 and rebooted.

Has anyone ever had this happen and is there hope for me to reach over this? I have no need for the performance. But I will be DAMNED IF A PIECE OF HARDWARE WINS!

I AM A MAN!

Usually unstable Memory overclocks cause artifacting and such. Though, that is beyond anything I have ever seen.

Well I left the memory alone and just kept bumping up the clock speeds of the processor.

That 'inverted split screen' thing usually occurred on 6900 series cards if the memory clock was set too high and the ECC correction didn't work. Never saw it on a 7000 series, but either way that's an unstable overclock.

yeah I figured it was too high. a 20% OC on the same voltage is not going to work. and tbh, a 12% OC is a reasonable limit I guess. do you think so?
