ram upgrade?

Thread Starter
I currently have 6gb of 800mhz ram in my laptop.... and I have money to blow

Other than solid state, I'm looking at more and new ram... Would going up to 16gb 1600mhz ram be a solid upgrade? Would I notice anything, in gaming to be specific?

What laptop do you have first off... It may not support that much or those speeds....

It's a lenovo g505s and yes it supports 16gb and yes it supports 1600mhz, I'm asking if you think it's worth the 150 dollars to upgrade, weather or not I'll actually see gains.

I use plenty of programs like photoshop, flash and indesign, I do a little bit of video encoding and plenty of gaming like diablo 3, sc2, minecraft and pretty much anything this laptop does great in all games

Unless your doing something that needs more ram, then no your wasting your money. And going from 800 to 1600 on games will give you like 2-3 fps, higher speed ram is mostly only good at benchmarking.

Lastly, my laptops ram currently runs on 1.35v, does this mean it won't support 1.5?

At any rate, this is what I'm looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231705

Could you please post a screenshot of your CPUZ memory page? DDR3 800Mhz is very rare, though it does exist.

Here is a screenshot of my Laptop (lenovo y510p) it says 800Mhz in CPU, DDR stands for Double Data Rate, so 800x2 is 1600mhz ram.

So this G.Skill ram I have lined to is useless for me, other than the fact it's more ram, and probaby better timings?

you really dont need more ram for a laptop unless your playing games and stuff.. maybe an ssd would be a better investment, and turning your hdd into an external.

Yes, the only thing your going to be gaining is more ram then with abit better timings. Your ram is already 1600mhz
