Minimalist Steambox / HTPC ft. Jonsbo V3 small form factor case - Page 6

Just wanted to revive this thread a bit.
Setup:
CPU: i3-4160
RAM : 2x4GB 1600 (standard height)
PSU: ST30SF
Motherboard: MSI H81i switched to Asus H97i

First I was running with stock intel cooler but it would reach sometimes even 90C while playing league of legends and it would be extremely loud so I needed a new cooler.
I had NHLi9 in one of my previous builds and even though it would be quieter it wasn't all that much better than the stock Intel temperature wise (just about 5 degree difference). So I researched some more coolers and managed to find a refurbished CRYORIG C1 for $40.
Load temps dropped by 15C..

4UTMw0vm.jpg?1

But it was quite loud both on idle and load. Also there was pretty huge gap between the CPU cooler and PSU so I decided to mount Noctua NF-A15 PWM and it worked without issues and system was very quite. Pretty much inaudbile. During idle my ViewSonic monitor was much louder (it's pretty quite monitor) than the PC. Highest temp while playing league of legends was 70C and fan wasn't even running at full speed so system stayed very quite still.

Now the issue is that I can't use GPU slot because of the terrible MSI layout. So I returned my MSI motherboard and got Asus H97. Remounted everything:

DRsoHX2m.jpg?1

Still couple of mm between the cooler and PSU.
Though 3.0 USB header wasn't so lucky. Should I worry about it?

ki6omP8m.jpg

Now I am deciding between 750 ti and 960 ITX GPU. I would go for Gigabyte 960 ITX but how can I know if ARCTIC Accelero Mono Plus (I have it already) supports it? The only reason I am mounting ARCTIC is because most ITX GPU's are very loud.

I've no info if it fits but my concern in that situation would be that those extra 60W (vs 750Ti) dumped inside the case could heat up the socket area so much that it'd be loud whether or not you were using the accelero.

The Maxwell based GPUs usually runs really quiet even on small coolers so I wouldn't worry about noise too much

Does that PSU only have fan on 1 side and exhausts out the back?

If so, you might want to flip it so that the PSU helps draw the heat out the back.

90C while playing League doesn't sound normal and I think something in your setup might be inhibiting heat dissipation.

sidenote to self: it can house a 183mm x 226mm mATX mobo like:

i agree with this - i have the same i3 and i cant get it to 90C using the Gamer Storm Gabriel cooler without a fan on it. maxes at 86C on BF4. i think a check of the TIM may be needed and a reseat. what are your idle temps btw?

Ok. So I decided against 960 and used PNY 750 TI I had from another build. This PNY is fairly noisy so I put Mono Plus cooler on it and it's very quite now running fan at 7V (12V is way too loud).
while watching 1080p60fps video on youtube:

after 20minutes of playing GTA5 at 1080p on fairly high settings:

Overall pretty happy. System is very quite.

Nice build, sound's really good. Should have gotten a low TDP GPU myself back then i/o of my GTX 760 as my temperatures where quite high.
Lucky you that your build doesn't have to fight so much as mine did temperature-wise!

Just wanted to say in case you guys didn't know already. The Jonsbo V3 can actually house a mATX board in it. I saw one specifically with an Asrock B75M DGS, all mATX boards probably fit too, but man this means you can get a 18-core xeon into this thing with FULL 4-channel memory unlike the Asrock X99 ITX.

If you're in Europe and salty about not being able to get this thing, look for "Cooltek Coolcube". Not "Coolcube mini" nor "Coolcube Maxi". The Maxi is mATX and the Mini doesn't house dedicated graphics.

The normal one is the goldilocks one, which is tiny and still houses a normal sized GPU and looks very similar to the V3.

Anyone know if 8-inch GPUs fit in this at all?

I switched from a R7 260x to a 750 Ti, but I want an upgrade this time instead of a sidegrade.
