Have you tried the Rift? DK1 is low resolution, blurry, and induces motion sickness easily but the potential is obvious. Technology has finally advanced enough to make good VR possible.

If you have a chance to try it out and you have any interest in astronomy you should check out Titans of Space, it is a guided tour of the Solar System and it blows my mind every time I think about it. You read about how approximately one million Earths will fit inside the Sun but once you see that at scale in VR it really sinks in. That experience is just not possible viewing it on a 2D screen.

which is the same reply i gave. the oculus isn’t really for hardcore gaming as such its more like a fair ground attraction / experience type unit.

After completing Half Life 2 on the Rift Dev Kit. I absolutely beg to differ.

Looks like the domain has been registered since 2004. The internet archive has a snapshot from 2006 where they are explaining the concept. So it definitely looks legit.

No i think its legit, but i also think they are trying to make some quick cash from it. Which is fine with me, i was just making the observation lol.

then you didnt read my post.

HL2 is not a competitive FPS, it is fairly slow paced story driven adventure / experience.

I agree with you. I don't see it for competitive gameplay. You'd break your neck trying to spin around as fast as you can with a mouse tongue.gif It's an immersion product.

I totally agree with you, today I saw some youtube videos of a person using it to play Skyrim, and I just thought to myself that Skyrim + ENB mods would look awesome, GTA with 1st person view mod would look sick too.
I actually wondered for a while if it would be a good idea to even purchase it just for the experience it would provide me in games.

Ah, so competitive FPS is the only thing that counts as "hardcore gaming" then. Got ya.

I would agree with your basic premise in that I don't think that the Oculus is a very good device for the sort of limited movement found in most games in the FPS genre. However, in games that allow for a separation of head and directional orientation games, VR with head tracking could be quite useful. This most notably includes vehicular genres such as racing, flight and mech sims, but also does include some FPS games like ARMA 2. Hardly "fair ground attractions."

Needs a wider FOV. Same goes for the Rift. The 110 degrees of the dk1 was a start but backtracking to 100 and 90? I see motion sickness on the horizon.
