You can always spot someone who has never tried the Rift... rolleyes.gif So skyrim is not hardcore gaming? I can see this being perfect for Arma3 as well.

HL2 is not a competitive FPS, it is fairly slow paced story driven adventure / experience.

I still disagree, have you even used a Rift, extensively? Competitive FPS' would be brilliant on the Rift.

You took that word and missed the rest of my post which was about hardcore FPS gaming, and no skyrim is not hardcore gaming. Its a great game, its an adventure / action game. It is not twitch, it is not competitive and it doesn’t rely on split second shots.Skyrim would work really well with the rift.

Arma 3 is tactically hardcore but not twitch or competitive to that extent and in that event i even think Arma 3 would be imersive and real but yea.. the guy with the large 2D monitor and mouse is still going to kill you. so i stand by my comment.

brilliant as an experience or do you genuinely believe you would have an advantage over a 2D monitor player?

I'm not sure how you're arguing this. 110+ FoV, the spatial awareness, positional tracking. You would have a huge advantage.

He has a point, Palmer has said that a mouse and keyboard is a superhuman interface. I tried Minecraft in the Rift and while the experience of scale and immersion is amazing, I found it easier to do large building projects with a 2D screen and mouse because I could just whip the cursor around with greater accuracy and speed with a mouse than with head-tracking (plus Minecraft + DK1 made me nauseous after awhile sadsmiley.gif).

That said, this argument only really applies to games that can be played either way, as VR becomes more established I'm sure someone will make a competitive, twitchy, VR-only title.

Humans have binocular vision in approx 120 degree horizontally and approx 90 degree vertically. That is the area where you can see with both eyes simultaneously. That out of the way it would be nice to have some kind of additional lower resolution screens for added immersion in periphelial vision but it would be probably hard to pull off with the "standard 3D format support".

As this headset is supposed to support all current 3D formats I do not see issue with this claim. HDMI 1.4a main point over HDMI 1.3 was adding support to additional 3D formats while bandwidth remained the same. PS4 is HDMI 1.4a so it is supporting these 3D formats as well. Guestion on its own is ofc if the particular games on PS4 support these but if you want to look, say "Avatar" with that headset on PS4 then you will be able to do so most likely.

Im quite confident in my 'argument' although i wouldn’t call it arguing just an opinion based on watching hours of real user footage and experiences of the Rift from Day one. Even interviews with the developers of the Rift consistently claiming the same and also Dev's who make games are moving it towards the 'experience' format.. so yea, im not arguing but the comment below sums it up. Whole screen visibility, whip snap flick to shoot on a flat two dimensional plain.. its not that i hate the oculus im merely pointing out that from a productivity & gaming perspective there isnt anything that can touch the 2D position for speed.. but again, dont be so butt hurt, i really am also excited for more imersive games .. just don't expect to win out on any competitive FPS games when your mind will be processing so much more in VR and in 3D.

True. There will be titles or game modes where VR-Only will be suitable. But dont forget even though you can still use a keyboard and mouse VR will lend itself more to a controller.. so again, more analogue, more amazing but less accurate.
