F1 season

So, I bought F1 2012 and F1 2013 a while back and I'm so confused as what to do in the season play.

I selected the team I wanted to race for, then go to event. I sit there and run around the track for many laps and it's not even counting toward anything from what I can tell (I assume its hot laps like in real motorsport racing I did). Then after a while, it takes me to garage then we do qualifying laps. After that, more qualifying laps. When is the actual race start so I can continue with the series instead of spending hours doing pre race stuff? I am so confused and this is taking way too long. Is there any way to skip some of these and just do the grid position timed laps then the actual race like the season challenge where it skips all of this?

There is no explanation at all with this game and when I was racing in motocross and snowmobiles, we never did grid position or qualifying laps we just did couple hop laps to learn the track then raced. Grid positioning was drawing a number so it was random. So, this is all new to me if anyone can explain how F1 works thank you.

With F1 you have multiple practice sessions which are just to get used to the track and set the car up. Then you have qualifying which is split up into different sessions - you progress if you're fast enough. That sets the grid, then there is a warmup to again just get used to the car, then the race takes place. With those F1 games you should be able to skip sessions, although you'll want to qualify unless you want to start at the back of the grid.

Ok thanks for clarifying this. I had a question regarding DRS now. When I'm racing an actual race and not within one second of another car, it won't let you DRS so my car is constantly bottomed out at high speed with all the downforce. Is there something in tuning settings I should be changing to fix this?

Run a lower downforce setup if you've not got enough top speed. Either use the easy setup slider to do it, or if you are changing the setup just experiment with some lower settings and see what works.

Thanks for the help but I think I'm done with this game. I can appreciate the game for its dedication to realism and I really wanted to enjoy it but it's too hard for me which is saying something. I regularly play games like Forza 5 and I'm posted top 1% in the world track times in my Ferrari 312 and Lotus E21 F1 cars with no assists on "unbeatable" difficulty. Then I barely pull 18th place in F1 2013 with a couple assists on amateur. confused.gif

It's just practice, the F1 series of games aren't that hard to drive in once you get used to the car handling. Neither those nor Forza are close to being realistic though. The F1 games do a good job of giving an authentic full season experience, so even if you have to drop the difficulty or practice a bit it's worth a go.

You can go under the settings and change the race weekend from full, to short, and then change the qualifying format to a single lap! Haha I do this when I want a short fix of racing.

Other than that, changing the difficulty to the easiest, turning of the brake assist, and leaving abs on, while putting the traction control on medium is a great way to get used to the car if you're using a wheel.
