R9 280x(310usd on newegg) or 770gtx 310usd on amazon

Or r9 280 /760gtx under 300usd..

All depends on which games do you play?which psu,cpu and resolution?and do you play with all graphics settings set to the max?

or

So do you use some professional app?that uses cuda or opencl?

There is a HD 7970 block for sale on the Hard OCP classifieds for $55. I don't think I'm allowed to link it but shouldn't be too hard to find. There is a 7970 on our own classifieds right now for $280 fresh from RMA. Also a guy selling a pair of GTX 580s with Koolance blocks for $500. Perhaps PM him and see if he is will to sell just one. The 580 is a beast overclocked on water.
