Sorry folks, the FF universe and Disney universe just do NOT go together. You can't just smash two completely different media concepts into one because they are both "popular" and expect a coherent result. The Square characters are out of place in the Disney universe, and the Disney characters are wildly uncharacteristic of themselves. It's just terrible.
If that makes sense, my not mix The Elder Scrolls with the Warner Brothers universe? Why not have Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck wandering around Skyrim or whatever? Because it would be fricking stupid, that's why!!!
But hey, maybe we should have been doing this in the 80s, some dying RPG franchises might have survived...Ultima + Care Bears? Wizardry + My Pretty Pony? The Bard's Tale + Hello Kitty?
Obviously Kingdom Hearts has its devoted fans...more power to you. Different strokes. But man, I've played just about every type of game there is, and I just don't get this one.
When I first heard of Kingdom Hearts, I was right there with you, I was like Disney and Square ? *** BULL CRAP IS THIS. But if you let go of the whole "this isn't in their character, or they are out of place" it's extremely fun. Basically I look at it as an entirely different universe. You love Bioshock Infinite right, well think of it like that...
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
there are an infinite number of possibilities, worlds where you exist and make different decisions, well the whole KH universe is about moving in and out of worlds, who's to say it's the same world that was in the FF game or Disney movie, it's just enough like it that you can recognize the characters/setting.
Basically, all I'm saying is that I totally agreed with you, until I played it. The story of the KH characters (not Disney or Square entirely) is actually pretty good, and the gameplay is fun, I think that's why the series took off the way it did, because despite everything in my gaming bones telling me to hate the game, I couldn't.
