ATIflash Page Fault Error - Unable to Flash BIOS

Thread Starter
(1) What I'm trying to do: Flash HD 5770 video card.

(2) What software I'm using: ATIflash (latest version) on a bootable USB stick (used to successfully flash many video cards)

What I'm running into:

On my ASUS M2A-VM based computer I'm running ATIflash and getting Pagefault errors. No matter what I do, I can't ATIflash to do anything on this system. It can't even give me the device id with the -i command.

Does anyone have any ideas?

ATIFlash or ATI WINFLASH? Never got a page fault before in command line flashing. Have you tried to flash the bios on another system? What does the error say exactly? Have you tried checking your memory for errors or tried loading the motherboard's default or optimized bios settings?

Atiflash, not Winflash.

Memory is fine. Passed memtest86 (10 passes)

I can flash Nvidia cards all day on this system. ATI cards, not so much. They seem to be a lot more trouble to flash than Nvidia.

I've successfully flashed 8800 GTs, 9800 GTXs, GTS 250s, GTX 480s, GTX 580s, 7600GS, and an HD 6670. Almost forgot, I've even successfully flashed 9800GX2s and GTX295s. I've also made custom BIOS for Nvidia cards (usually just cranking the fans up to 100 percent by default).

The HD 6670 was a huge pain to flash and I almost bricked it.

There seem to be some issues with ATI / AMD cards that the people providing the tutorials for are 'assuming' that everyone knows. I think the card may be locked or something, but there doesn't seem to be anyway to unlock it. No switches on it.

You didn't try force flashing it? AFAIK I don't remember any switches on ATI cards, it seems like it's not a common thing. I've seen a few people with cards that have a switch but I don't think everyone of them has one. Is this 5770 operating normally? Like is it bricked? How can it not detect though? That's what I don't get if it displays directly to your monitor? Are you trying to flash it with two cards installed? Did you try to flash it with 5770 as the main card and only card installed?

Yep. Tried force flashing it.

No, the 5770 is not bricked. Atiflash just doesn't work with it at all.

Yes, some AMD cards actually have physical switches hidden on them to lock the BIOS.

5770 is operating fine. No problems with it. Just wanted to change the BIOS.
