[DSO] Oculus VR Employees Receive Death Threats Over Aquisition - Page 4

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's not Facebook that's going to ruin Oculus, it's these bitter manchildren souring the name of Oculus right now that will ruin it before it even has CV1 ready

I'm in the camp that thinks FB money will be great for Oculus.

Death threats are obviously bad but to be honest when I read headlines about someone receiving death threats online I don't really care...

Every time someone or something makes the news or gets any attention there will be death threats. Doesn't make it right at all but that's just the reality of things with the internet.

Oculus guys not receiving death threats would be more news worthy.

not quite, the raised 2.4 million AND got an additional 100 million in backing a short while later THEN sold to face book.

I wonder if kickstarter has any rules that people cant start lawsuits if they don't i see a class action lawsuit coming up against them from the people who funded it trying to get thier money back.

I dunno, while i don't support death threats, this was entirely a dick move by occulus, "Oh we need funding for this great idea" everyone piles on because it's a great idea, Mark zuckerburg walks up with big amounts of cash and is running a KNOWN datamining company, "Hey can i buy your company for 2 billion" "Sure" And then all those who contributed to the startup of occulus get betrayed, Zuckerburgs first words on it? "This is gonna be great for advertising"

Yeah they should of seen this kind of backlash coming given WE made them a thing and then they turn around and sell out.

Honestly, I think this whole Occulus - Facebook situation is a perfect example of why Kickstarter is "dangerous" . Don't get me wrong I think it's cool for small companies with nice ideas and a niche market to get some funds. But a company like Occulus shouldn't have been on Kickstarter in the first place. The idea was too big for it from the start.
People on Kickstarter are basically investing in a company without buying shares. And now Facebook and the people who actually buy shares are going to reap the benefits. We invented stocks for this reason. If you believe in a company, buy a part of it and help it grow.

As for the death threats ... there will be stupid people today, and there will be stupid people tomorrow. (At least until I start my selective breeding and education program, but that's a long-term project for after I finished building my laser on the moon and take over the world devil.gif )

Are you a midget? Because we're still in need of one.
Or if you have a lot of cats, that's good too. We're currently still in the early spying and crippling phase where we use cat videos to reduce employee productivity and cripple the economy.

Yeah they should of seen this kind of backlash coming given WE made them a thing and then they turn around and sell out.

Lets face it, as PC gamers we're used to sell outs by now. Carmak himself is a sellout to the consolisation of everything we, the PC gamers, made of him and putting us on the back burner with his games. Sure, it's to a lesser degree but it's still the same thing, morals. Yeah someone in a suit walked up to the VR guys and bought them out with a suitcase full of money -but- they said not a week earlier that they'd never sell out. Thats what I find completely pathetic, from my understanding they had $102.4M stashed away and still went for the $2B payoff. Buissness wise, yeah it's a great move for stuffing your pockets but it wasn't true to WHY they started in the first place, to make a purely gaming Peripheral. So they sell to the non-gaming company. This has little to do with Facebook expanding, it's more to do with the selling out of a group that touted the usual Rehtoric of "We're all for the gamers", "we're making this for YOU!" and then giving it to the first people whom walk by with a suitcase stuffed with paper.

Likewise with some of the comments in this forum. Yeah, you could be altruistic and buy the product thats "Best" on the market no matter who makes it but I personally wouldn't want to be supporting bad practises because of it. I don't like supporting what EA games does, I don't buy their games, I miss out but I'm happy I'm not supporting them. If you're supporting them then you are part of what they do, whether you spend $1 or $1m on their products. Likewise with this, if you don't like Facebook but still buy a Occulus VR, reguardless of the "Spyware" or not inserted into it, you're supporting what facebook does and thus enabling them, they believe they've "Done right" because the sales figures tell them so. Just like what I believe NVidia are doing with their GPU pricing.

Then we have the people who've invested, Youtuber "Fransis" mentioned on his Vblog that he donated $500 to the kickstarter. He'll never see that money returned to him but I think what makes this worse is that the $102.4M is now working for Facebook, that annoys folks more than not seeing a return on their donation to the project.
