Of course it is extreme ! anyway Facebook is not to blame, though as a company it sucks, the ones that sold Occulus are to blame here.

Even Metallica took longer to sell out.

Mentally Ill people exist on the internet. This isn't new.

I've received death threats in the past as well, and typically its from someone mentally disturbed with the capacity to easily rationalize past checks of sanity.

I'm sure they can afford a full army of security guards with all that money wink.gif

I can see why people are angry, but threatening someone's life or their family's is just pathetic. Grow up. Acquisitions happen whether we like it or not.
That there are even people here defending the occurrence of death threats over a technological acquisition with no traumatic effect (physically or psychologically) disgusts me. There is no good or moral reason for anyone to threaten to murder a person, let alone because of something that doesn't even negatively affect livelihoods or the wellbeing of anybody. Even more appalling, for some of these death threats to be aimed at the families of the people who are involved in this acquisition, whoever sent those threats have a special sort of sickness in their head.

Some people in this thread wave this off as commonplace? "It happens, deal with it"? These individuals act as if the victims of these death threats have no right whatsoever to do anything about it, or otherwise are satisfied with the status quo wherein the Internet is naturally a medium filled with those who can safely make these sorts of attacks and hide behind their pathetic shield of anonymity.

It is NOT right for death threats to be sent to people.
It is NOT RIGHT for people to be able to verbally abuse other people and get away with it simply because, Hey!, it's the Internet.

I am disappointed and upset by these members of OCN who think otherwise. I wish for their dispositions to change, for their complacency with the rampant abusiveness that occurs on the 'net ends.

Oculus should have communicated better on this.
The Kickstarter was completed fully for version1. The problem is that they didn't move on and kept that relationship.
They should have declared a new version, created a branched department, then announced the acquisition.
They needed to show that they wanted to move in two different directions so that people could come to terms with the change, instead of just dumping everything on everyone at once.
It is just bad PR.

Oculus has done a lot of great things for pushing VR forward. They really needed to protect their Name better.

Glad I didnt support the kickstarter this time around.

While I cant condone death threats, I can understand the sentiment.

I understand the frustration, but death threats are not acceptable. Personally I would like to see them reported, investigated and prosecuted - it is illegal in many jurisdictions. It would not be acceptable to threaten someone's life in person, or by mail or any other media, I don't see why it should be any different over the internet.
