Loop order question

Thread Starter
Hi,

I know that a loop reach equilibrium no matter where you put your rads versus your components.

Generally, I always put a rad before the pump so the water as just been "cooled". But in my next loop it might not be the case.

So my question is, will my pump suffer in any way if it receive "hot" water that has just pass thru 3 gpu, 1 cpu and 1 ram block without passing in any rads?

The water would then exit the pump, be cooled by a series of rads and then up to the components.

Only loop order rule is reservoir before pump. Do as you wish within this rule.

The difference is very minimal, like 2-3C. As long as your pump is after your res, so it never runs dry, you're golden smile.gif
post #5 of 24
Only rule I know of is Res then pump do what ever you want after that. But if you think about it your overall water temp is likely never gonna pass low 40c which the pump was designed to handle

Whenever possible, the res at the top of the loop.
And the pump as low as possible, and right after the res.
Everything else, just make it look good, with shortest possible tube runs.
If the temps fluctuate too much inside your loop, you either have not enough flow, or not enough rads/fan speed.

i would be scared if my water ever got as warm as 40*C. that would definitely be a loop needing more rads and fans.

My water temps quite often hit 40C. Its hard not to with high, 30C+, ambients. More fans and rads won't help much then. It hasn't been any problem. If it was 50+ I might worry but I think everything is fine with temps that high.

Heat wave still rocking down there? It is kind of funny...you guys get hit with heat and my area of the world gets hit with abnormal cold. It is like the world is trying to balance itself out.

But yeah, a water temp of 5-7° over ambient isn't horrible...not good and more radiator would help some, but it is a diminishing return. I run two 360mm radiators and my water temp is only about 4° over ambient. Heh...I can turn my fans off and it will only get to about 10° delta under normal loads.

Not really a heat wave as such. Summer temps in Australia are pretty normal to be 30+ with the occasional 40C. Its one of the main reasons I started water cooling. We are heading out of summer now though of course. A Laing pump with standard plastic top is limited to 60C fluid and I think most flex tubing is recommended to max at least 50C. All other parts should be the same or higher.

Edit: Huh, Masterkleer reckon 70C+ is Ok for their tube. Now that is warm.

A 4C delta with twin 360's ... wow that is low. What sort of fan speed is that with? With a 360 and 240 my idle delta is 2.5C and BF4 load is about 10C with fans at about 1200rpm
