i7 worth for gaming?

Thread Starter
Is a 4770k better for a exclusive gaming rig than a 4670k?
I'm asking this cause i see people saying a 4770k performs better in bf4, crysis 3 and some people saying theres is no improvements.

It's not really worth it for just gaming. There is no difference other than HyperThreading. For video encoding and things though.. there is a big difference.

There are games that take advantage of extra threads like BF4. Will more games in the future take advantage of extra threads. More than likely. If your budget allows it, getting a 4770k is not a bad option because it does increase your FPS in games that are CPU bound:

Is it worth the price difference for someone that is on a tight budget. Not necessarily, because most games today are indeed GPU bound.

No, not really and trust me I know from experience. The difference in gaming is negligible. I played SC2 with a 4770k oc'd and a 4670k oc'd. The difference is within a few frames, something I can live with. The hyperthreading only helps with applications that utilizes multi threads. If you do a lot of professional productive work that includes video encoding, rendering, ray tracing, etc, then you would benefit from it and the extra $100 is worth it. Otherwise you're wasting your money. I wouldn't trust those graphs too much. Take a look at this review. It is much more in-depth, detailed, and non-biased.

The article is 14 pages. I suggest reading it all the way through.

Depends on the game, but in most cases an i5 should do you fine for gaming, even better when overclocked. if you've got extra cash to spend then it's better spent on a faster GPU imo. I wouldn't go for an i7 unless i was doing more CPU intensive tasks (like rendering/HD video encoding)
