want to rebuild my desktop around a fx series 8 core - Page 2

Higher RAM speeds help a lot if you're after compression/encryption/trans-coding etc., these are memory intensive tasks. And an overclocked FX-8xxx is the best processor to go for since you do not need to pay much to get that level of performance. Even gaming is butter smooth on these processors.

And yeah, the parts list looks good, except that if you can then try to get a Kraken X60 instead of the h100i, for the same cooling performance it will be quieter and for max performance the X60 cools wayy better than the h100i. Also, for the RAM I'd suggest G.Skill Sniper or RipjawsZ, they're better suited for AMD platforms and especially Sniper series OC's quite better with lesser voltage, so go for Sniper. Everything else is very good get you gaming easily. Best of Luck for your build

I just made a AMD build, that I think is fairly good (IMO)

CPU: FX8320
MBO: Gigabyte mATX
RAM: Vengeance Pro 16GB 1866mhz
GPU: Sapphire R9 270X Toxic
PSU: SilverStone Strider 650w gold rated
SSD: Adata 120GB
HDD: Seagate Bar. 1TB
CASE: Corsair 350D
COOLER: Hyper 212 Evo (soon H80i)

Everyone here is posting good ideas to go off of. It all really depends on exactly what you want and how much to spend.

I too have a Corsair RAM, 1x8 GB 1600C10, it is great and overclocks really well. At 1.65V I have this RAM running stable at 1866 MHz CL10-11-10-28. I see just a little increase in gaming but others like I mentioned compression etc. are noticeably faster with higher-speed/lower-latency of RAM

I 2nd that, good parts for a decent price. What about a R9 270(X) instead of 760?

Stick with your antec its a great power supply. I still have one in use too.

Sell your current mobo, CPU, and ram for money towards the new set up.

I would buy used here on the OCN marketplace. You can find amazing deals. On top of the money saved on great deals, u don't have to pay taxes/shipping costs. I would not sli 560tis They are getting older and I would sell the 560ti later on. Along with selling the 560ti and some money saved up. Buy 1 beefy GPU. Less complications, power, heat, and don't need to upgrade power supply.

Since There's time for DX12 with a R9 270/270X you can very well enjoy your gaming with Mantle and get rid (actually minimize) bottleneck of CPU in some games, though it is unlikely of a FX-8xxx bottlenecking any card up-to say 280/280X or 770/780. Above that i.e. 290/290x and 780 Ti/Titan/TitanZ would be a bit of bottleneck which can be dealt with by using Mantle.

I have a r9 270x and love it. Plays everything out there at 1080p at high/max settings. Compared to a 760 its a win some lose some affair. Some games the 760 is faster, 270x faster in others, and both about the same. Just depends on what games you play. Either one will run all the games out there just fine.
