CPU paste re-new Q6600 , 5ºC cooler PIC UPDATE-- reapplied paste again and getting even better temp!!

Thread Starter
So i just re-applied some new thermal paste on my 7year old q6600 since it was getting too hot for my liking... although not a big difference, it still runs 5degree celcius cooler on idle and under load its alot more stable, doesnt go past 68-69 vs 72-78!!!

I still think ive putted too much paste though, how can u tell if i put too much?

If any paste spilled over the side of the cpu you've put on too much.

Your temps will be worse if you use too much, simple as that really tongue.gif

Old-timers do that, but many are happy with the pea or the "x" method too...much faster.

You only need enough to redice the gap between the IHS and the cpu cooler. A small pea size blob is fine.

ok so i re applied the paste again, i i am indeed getting better temp with less fan cooling & less fan speed!! thats awsome since i like quiet computer.. I dont go over 60degrees when playing bf3!!!! biggrin.gif vs 68-69 with too much paste ... wow

here are some pictures of a 7year old thermal paste --

all cleaned up

Thanks for the pics. I think they will be useful as an example of what NOT to do.

The TIM application depicted is the most grossly f*ked up TIM application I have ever seen. The person who applied the TIM in the photos above had clearly used way too much TIM.
