over clocking a fx-8320 and need help

hey I need help i have just finished my new rig and im running a custom dual loop one for the cpu and one for the mobo...cpu is as i said a fx-8320 black edition and the bord is a asus crosshair v formula z and i have a xfx 1050 pro psu now this is where i have an issue im running two 780 classifieds in sli and with everything on stock it runs pretty good my cards are obviously being bottlenecked by my 8320 but i knew that was going to happen and want to over clock my cpu enough to let me push the cards but as soon as i start to overclock my cpu even after testing for an hour or two on prime and not loseing any cores i start bf4 and i get massive studder i mean even to click on the deploy button takes effort as it freezes on frames also i tested each card alone and then in sli on heaven bench and they ran 77FPS alone and 110FPS together as soon as i up the multiplyer by .5 and rerun the bench i get 44FPS and the studder but when i run the bench with it OCed it only takes about a tenth of the time to run...im stumped someone please help

Can you please describe how your overclocking your CPU, as well as voltage, and settings on CPU within BIOS.
Did you remove turboboost?

Also the 8320 will not bottleneck your SLI GPU setup. It will "bottleneck" your maximum FPS possible in terms of TODAYS possible technology when you compare it to an intel, if however intel did not exist then "bottleneck" would not exist in terms of Possible FPS. GPUS are not using up 100% of CPU.

Are you using software to overclock your cpu?
That can screw things up for certain applications, catzilla in particular.

turbo core is turned off in bios and right now im running CPU freq of 209 and a 17.5 ratio cpu voltage is 1.275 and the cpu/nb voltage is at 1.250 dram is 1.650 which runs at 3657MHz and im useing AI suite II to overclock my setting that i had wanted to run and has worked well on prime is CPU bus at 214 cpu voltage at 1.53750 cpu/nb at 1.4 dram 1.65 and ratio of 22.5 which war running at 4702MHz i think

Glad it worked out for you. Any update to the scores with those monster cards?

it ran 110fps on ultra 1080 with a score of 2789 but theres alot more there i just havnt got the time this week to play with it im going to push it this weekend and see were i can get i have an air flow issue in my case i modded it for water but at this point dont have the time to build another loop for the cards but that will come to in time lol possibly even with a 3rd 780 biggrin.gif

I have a set up I'm happy with the cards are not over clocked at all i have an airflow issue in my case and have no room to push at least not now I'm running my cpu at 4515 MHz at 1.452 volts with my ram at 2490 at 1.65v ran heaven bench and got 125 fps and a score of 3350 that's not exact but I'm pretty happy with it for now at least until i get another loop for the cards thanks again for the help everybody and i guess before I go is that a good score? thats on ultra 1920x1080

It doesn't matter if it's an FX-4300, Pentium G3220, or i7-4930K@5ghz, if the workload pegs one or more CPU cores at 100% load and that prevents 100% GPU utilization then it's a CPU bottleneck. Hypothetically removing Intel from existence would not change the definition of a CPU bottleneck. Any CPU can bottleneck a pair of GTX780's in SLI depending on the conditions, whether or not that is a problem depends on the situation. In many strategy games and MMOs even haswell at 5ghz will bottleneck a low end GPU. The only hypothetical that would prevent this is if CPU's were infinitely fast.

wss03,

When overclocking on this platform it's really important to work on only 1 area at a time so that you can isolate the source of instability.

Work on CPU overclocking without overclocking the RAM or CPU-NB or BCLK. Just use the multiplier. Turn off turbo and APM, and learn how to take the reigns of the voltage regulation for the CPU. Feel out the voltage requirements as you work your way up the overclock, that way when you start overclocking other things, you'll already know what *should* be stable on the CPU. Adjust LLC to get tight voltage regulation from idle to load.

RAM speeds that high are apt to be a source of instability and won't have significant performance benefits. I recommend staying under 2400MT/s and going for tighter timings. While performance tuning the CPU you should pull back to 1600MTs to eliminate the system memory as a source of instability while testing the CPU.
