Which CPU ??

Thread Starter
If you had to pick one for a very quiet 1080p/ultra gaming/ audio/video productivity machine which CPU would you choose, a Xeon 1230v2 or a 3570K ? I am personally leaning to the Xeon due to it's low TDP/High thread count, but wondering if a highly clocked i5 would negate the Xeons thread count in productivity workloads and still be able to be cooled very quietly and cost effectively ?

I am going Ivy for price to performance ratio as I don't really think haswell offers much over ivy but costs a bit more, clocks lower and runs hotter.

I would rather pick the 3570K, the extra performance you get from overclocking can surpass the HT of 1230v2.
However you could get a 3770K where you get both HT and overclocking. Personally I think its worth the extra price. Seen several used for a decent price if you want to save some money.

You don't need a insane cooler to get 4.2-4.6ghz out of a 3570/3770K. But a decent one is recommended.

A decent one would be one such as the Hyper Evo 212 CPU Cooler. These are pretty good when comparing price and performance. It's a low price for one and it performs well for mild overclocks.

Would you think the E3-1230v2 is enough for gaming on it's stock clocks ?
