Will the xeon x3320 work on a q33/q35 mobo

Thread Starter
See, i'd like to upgrade my pathetic pc:mad:. so im going to buy an LGA 775 Xeon X3320 processor(since its cheap:D). I want to know whether it would work on my Zebronics ZEB G31 Mobo(cheap piece of crap but its all that was avaliable cuz people are not stocking 775 mobos anymore). and unlike the name, the box says its got the q33 chipset and strangely windows says its got the q35 chipset.

so, will the x3320 work on it. the box says it supports all 1333/1066/800/667/533 processors
and it lists the core 2 extreme, core 2 quad , core 2 duo , pentium etc etc as supported processors but it doesnt list the xeon series.

also if it doesnt support the xeon natively , are there any bios mods that would make it support the processor

also in case i dont get the x3320 then i'll probably get the x3323,but that a 771 processor.so if i apply the 771 to 775 adapter and fit it in my mobo. will it boot as it is said that the q33/q35 chipsets have problems with booting with some 771 xeons.

in terms of games which is better the x3320 or a c2d e8600 pls answer

thanks for any help given thumb.gif

It *might* work, but on that board with a quad core i seriously would not recommend it in any shape or form, as it is not from any brand i recognize.

To answer your second question whether the C2D is better than the Xeon, it would depend on the workload. Lightly threaded workloads would see a benefit from running on the C2D, while more heavily threaded workloads and games would function on the quad better.

It all depends on what you are doing and playing.

Assuming you live someplace where it is possible to buy and sell at e-bay:

1. Sell your current motherboard and CPU at e-bay.
2. With the money you get from the sale plus $20, buy any P45 Chipset motherboard.
3. Buy a Xeon X5450/E5450.
4. Overclock above Xeon to around 3.8 GHz (max OC your crap RAM will allow).

You are done.

C2D Wolfdales are hopelessly outdated. You don't want to game on those.

EDIT: There are 2 threads here on modding S775 boards to work with S771 Xeons. You should study them carefully, everything you need to know is in there.
