BSOD problem - video drivers? - Page 2

That's what I get, but I can't choose Express because then it will delete everything to do with AMD in general.

I just went and chose the first option, then and I chose custom again instead of express, now I have a list of things.

I take it I should delete the ones saying "AMD Display Driver (90 mb)", AMD accelerated video, HydraVision, and Catalyst Manager?

The rest doesn't seem like it should be deleted, but there's one more thing called "HDMI audio driver"

When you get the BSOD again, search for the word "STOP" and after that word will be the code you need (if you don't know how to use the program BSOD-viewer as mentioned above)

It looks something like this:

STOP: 0x000blablabla....

Google that 0x000000blabla bla and try to get the problem solved.

Since you say you have it 4 years and you game a lot, it might just be as simple as CPU or GPU overheating... Did you clean your case already?

Be sure to suck the dust out of the fans's and heatsinks!!! (but block the fans with a pencil or something, as they will spin out of control AND become a generator, giving electricity to components... And it should GET elec, to spin as a motor wink.gif )

Try some temp-reading programs... For GPU you can get GPU-Z and for CPU you can get RealTemp (don't know if it works for AMD tho... as I always use Intel/nVidia)

my recommendation is to revert back to 13.12 or 13.11 (if you can find it). 14 drivers are there for mantle and, unfortunately, our gpu will not benefit with them yet. are you after any features from 14 drivers?

also, for a HD7770, you can disable 2 cores on the thuban and oc it a bit to around 3.6 or 3.8 provided you can cool it. it should run cooler with less cores and it will match the 7770.

here is what i do when updating or reverting drivers . .

1. download the driver (13.12)
2, Run it and choose Uninstall>Express>Reboot. It will ask you to delete the folders associated with the driver just hit yes. yes, yes.
3. Run it again but this time Install>Express Just before Rebooting go to msconfig and disable CCC in startup. might as well uninstall raptr (unless you use).
4. Reboot>Test.

edit: about the cores . . . unless you need six core for other than gaming . . . the thuban is overkill for a HD7770.

Interesting. The only part you lose me is at "Just before rebooting disable CCC on startup". Why? At that point, aren't you practically already done (only needing to restart again to refresh the newly installed driver)?

You sure the express uninstall won't screw me over (AMD processor)?

I cleaned it about 3 weeks ago. Would be odd if the problem was overheating all of a sudden.

Also, right after both BSODs Friday and yesterday I did some intensive gaming for more than 7 hours, didn't have problems. In fact both BSODS happened while I was browsing the internet with a few tabs open.

after installing the driver it will ask you to reboot, right? say no. go to start>search>type - msconfig.

in msconfig under startup, make sure CCC is unchecked, then reboot. might as well uncheck raptr if present. those things slow down the bootup process and not needed. if needed just go to start and open CCC from there.

i never had problem using Express. afaik, it will only delete folders for the gpu drivers.

i use this method all the time on both my sigs. 7770 and 290. Zero bsod. ZERO.

imo, the only time we have to use third party software to uninstall drivers is when switching from red to green or vice versa.

one other cause of bsod to some is hardware acceleration being enabled in video like You Tube. others like mine is fine - enabled or disabled.

You could try cleaning the driver with 3d guru's uninstaller - cleans registry and everything. Just seach for 3d guru display driver uninstaller.
