[Think Computers] NVIDIA Maxwell 20nm GPU Lineup Delayed Until 2015

Quote:
Word has just come from SweClockers that NVIDIA’s 20nm Maxwell GPU lineup has been delayed till most likely 2015. The reason being that TSMC is not ready for 20nm GPU ASIC production.

This is going to be bad news for NVIDIA who had planned on releasing their 20nm Maxwell GPU lineup in Q3 or Q4 of this year. While 20nm production has begun at TSMC, apparently the process is not yet ready for full fledged GPU core production. SweClockers says that we might see an odd card or two by the end of 2014, but expect the full lineup in 2015.

April Fools?

If not, Nvidia is going to be hurting. AMD Radeon pricing is dropping back to normal , so the only compelling GTX card is the Maxwell GTX 750 Ti / GTX 750.

This may not be a bad delay to happen after all, it may push Nvidia to do more R&D to produce cards on the same fab that are very efficient like how the 750Ti has shown to be. It is however, still bad news.

It may mean even cheaper 780s and Tis if they stop selling. Either way consumers win!

Unless this is a crafty April fools prank. It's April first somewhere in the world now, right? tongue.gif

A 780Ti won't get cheap enough for me to buy it at this point. I'm committed to the 800 series for my major system rebuild, it's too close and too big a jump to justify not waiting.

April fools, check the conclusion in the article. TSMC 20nm and Pascal are unrelated...

Is it common to do April Fools jokes on the day before? The about us page says they're based in PA so it's still March 31 here in the US. Don't get these early April Fools accusations.
