AMD 8350 Build Help

Thread Starter
Hello guys I'm a long time reader of the forums first time poster. I have just bought a new pc build upgrading from an i5.

Asus Sabertooth 990fx r2
amd 8350

I was able to boot the system initially but after about 20 minutes I noticed the system temperatures rose to 106 degrees. I was using the stock fan as I was waiting for my h100 to arrive. After I shut the system down I took the stock cooler out as well as the cpu. When I tried to put he cpu back in it would lock into place. My question is can the socket on the motherboard be deformed or does it have to do with my cpu pins? I checked the bottom of the cpu and the pins seem to be fine. I put in a RMA at newegg for my cpu. Also I am using a crucial ssd and on my last build I ran it in Achi mode instead of ide as i heard it was better. Does anyone know how I can change it in the sabertooth bios? I was unable to see it when I was able to get it to post.

Thank you for you time/

What are you using to check your temperatures? Have you tried different programs? 106 Degrees is pretty damn high. I would have thought your computer would have begun to throttle and shut off to prevent damage to it's self confusedsmiley.png

I don't understand what your problem is. You said that the CPU locks into place.....but it's supposed to do that....?

You want to run ssds in AHCI mode, you can run into problems if you dont.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I actually just sent the CPU back to newegg. The problem I was having with the CPU was it felt like it fit into the socket but when I tried to latch it down with the latch lever it wasn't secure.

I was looking at the saber tooth manual and I didn't see anything about where ahci mode would be any ideas ?

Levo,

When I first booted the system I was in the bios but I didn't see any ide or ahci configure settings. But once I get a new CPU back I'll check.
