[TPU] More Details of Radeon R9 295X2 Emerge (Hybrid cooling a'la Ares 2)

More details of AMD's upcoming dual-GPU graphics cards based on the "Hawaii" silicon emerged, in the run up to its April 8 launch. That's right, AMD plans to launch the card exactly one week from now. The card will bear the name Radeon R9 295X2, after all. The $3,000 pricing set by NVIDIA for its GTX TITAN-Z graphics card will be taken advantage of AMD, which will splurge on stuff such as a metal briefcase to ship the card in (with two combi-locks no less!), possibly high-quality (expensive) cooler shroud materials, and more. The card will be cooled by an air+liquid hybrid cooling solution, much like the ASUS ROG ARES 2. A factory-fitted (AIO) liquid cooling loop will handle the two 250W GPUs, while a fan-heatsink will cool the memory, VRM, and PCIe bridge chip. AMD will not chase down the ludicrous 12 GB memory amount of GTX TITAN-Z despite its wider memory bus, and will instead equip it with 8 GB (4 GB per GPU). And lastly, the card will have a total of five display outputs, including five mini-DP and one dual-link DVI-D (digital-only).

Edit:

For reference on the "hybrid cooling" from Asus Ares 2 (thinking NZXT Kraken):

I'd rather have a hybrid cooler like the ROG Poseidon than some lame AIO that will fail or leak months/years later; a noticeable problem with the Ares II. Lets hope the price is right smile.gif

But the cooler on the poseidon cards is terrible... On air it can't handle even one GK110 properly and on water the temps are terrible compared to actual water cooling...

I'm sure the big water block companies will get one to make em fullcover blocks.

Not really bad according to [H]ard OCP's review.

As long as the hybrid block has a maintainable design (removable/cleanable). I'm pretty sure its many times better than a Factory installed AIO.
Of course full waterblocks will get the best results.

I don't like AMD's way of building hype. They start way too early and then the urge dies out before the product is released, possibly after being postponed a couple times. Now, I have to wait until the 8th to see the card.

Wait so by AMD saying they are taking advantage of Nvidias 3000 dollar price does that mean they are charging 3000 as well and adding suitcases and stuff like that?

Yes, $2999 MSRP thanks to the Crypto miners and greedy US retailers and now greedy AMD rolleyes.gif

Realistically, it should be ~$1100-1200 USD considering the MSRP of the 290X ~$550 USD. But I wouldn't hold my breath. Asus Ares price and "exclusivity" may be the name of the game to capitalize on the mining craze.

Man for 3 grand I don't just want fullcover water block that should be a requirement , heck even for 1.5 grand I want a fullcover block not some aluminum rad fitted AiO.

They want 3000? Better put 4 290s on 1 die. Only market I see this appeal to are really stupid rich kids or collectors, more so for the former. But really, That 2000 dollar briefcase better have 2 tickets to the super bowl and round trip tickets to see mount Vesuvius or hawaii to make it worth anyone's while.
