Short summary:
1 Install some sort of start menu utility like Start8 and you will eliminate most of the bifurcated UI issues. Otherwise you get the Start Screen that reminds me of the failed Microsoft Bob , complete with fluorescent color tiles
2 The charms bar gets in the way unless you turn it off.
3 BSODs are really uninformative, you'll need to go restart to figure out the error
4 Obvious privacy invasions, especially if you link to a MIcrosoft account instead of using a Local account
5 Need to adjust power setting or USB drives power down (compatibility issues)

Have been using Win 8 (now 8.1) since the beginning on my main gaming desktop.

While I don't like the "Metro" interface I have made it work for me. I re-arranged my more common apps in groups and named them. Basically use it as a quick launcher. The one thing that does bug me is that when you look at the full list of programs in the "Start menu" below metro it is hard to glance over as it spaced so far apart. I preferred a folder view to see all of my installed programs, utilities, etc

Other than that it runs smooth as butter.

No official support from Origin on Windows 8. If they fix that, I'll switch over.

That must be tech support or something...I have Origin and a couple games installed at home with no issues.

One thing of note...some times with applications in Windows 8.1 you will run into issues. What I've found to work every time I've had an issue is to set the compatibility mode for "Windows 8".

One game of note that I am currently playing is The Secret World. In Windows 8.1 with SLI you will get crazy DX11 issues...the shadows will go nuts. Put it to Windows 8 mode and it is fine. There's been a few others that I've had issues with as well. Win8.1 is the first time I've ever seen Compatibility Mode even have an effect on software...or a positive one at least. The Win7 mode or XP mode will not help anything...only the Win8 mode.
