AMD budget build advice

Thread Starter
I need to replace a computer that got hit in the lightning storm this past weekend. The computers main jobs will be capturing streaming video via screen capture software and capturing TV in Cyberlink powerdirector. The computer that was doing this before it got hit was a core i5 laptop. I really want to keep cost as low as possible. I already have an old antec case that can i use. And I have a couple of 500 gb blacks for the os. I also have a spare SSD now.

So really just need advice on cpu, board and ram. Is an A10 enough for something like this or should I step up to the FX series? The 2 CPUs I was considering were the A-10 and the FX 4300.

Thanks in advance.

I would think either should be able to handle the task just fine. Pair with a basic mobo and some 8GB of RAM and you should be fine. Remember FX has no built in GPU so if you go that route a GPU will be needed as well.

You might want to see if the previous configuration was taking advantage of Intel Quick-Sync hardware encoding to work. A switch to AMD may actually be a down-grade if your streaming/recording functions were calling on the hardware encoder in the i5 (assuming it was sandy-bridge or later generation)

Streaming loves the extra grunt an eight core has, but I suppose the budget isn't there, no?
