We really need more of orange...

What I don't get is, why haven't MB makers figured out a why to just customize the color? Several of them make pointless heatsink covers (iE: The dragon on MSI's gaming boards), why wouldn't you come up with a way where those covers come on/off easily and you just make those in different colors? You would please so many people in the customizing world!

Because anything you would make that would come on/off easily would be very bad for their thermal performance. The colors come from anodization, and that doesn't do much to their thermal conductivity with the air. But a snap-on cover? Forget it. Not only would it be very hard to have good thermal contact, you're very limited in the materials you could use.

At that point you're replacing the entire heatsink assembly, just for the color, and is that something you really want to be doing?

Just recently I removed the heatsink covers on my MSI Z77 MPower board...they were just a cheap thin metal that was glued onto the heatsink. On or off they do just about nothing to the thermals on my MB. So again, why couldn't these just be easier to take on and off?

Devil's Canyon = Haswell Refresh K-Series

Haswell Refresh = Non K-Series

Devil's Canyon isn't compatible with 8-Series chipset (Z87/H87).

Haswell, Haswell Refresh, Devil's Canyon and Broadwell CPUs will be compatible with 9-Series chipset (Z97/H97)

Be nice if it could, I'm thinking of building an Intel machine, probably best to wait you think or just build an Z87 now? I don't usually buy first gen electronics in case there's a few bugs to iron out. Damn this compulsion to keep up sonic.gif

I know what you mean Bagmup, I am addicted to upgrading this rig of mine, hopefully I will get some extra work in the next couple of weeks, and that should take care of the AIR 540 case then its just selling my current mobo/cpu/ram to a buddy who wants it, then getting new bits woooo smile.gif

Wait so haswell refresh wont have k series CPUs?

But then again whatever, as long as the old haswell works with the z97 is good enough for me.

Seems like my current wishlist can procede then smile.gif.

After the z97 boards are released..ill just swap out the current mobo with a z97.

The question is, when are they being released? Eeerrghh CC cant wait any longeer lpl

Here's an idea: Have black PCB and heatsinks with swappable coloured parts like the Corsair fans and H105. That way if you find gold ugly, you can have blue (Or red. Or grey. Or whatever) or visa versa.

I like your line of thinking there, brutuz. That's actually a great idea! Remember how Asus had swappable color stickers on their GTX 780ti DC 2 and 290X DC II cards? I would love for them to do that to their motherboards. Now I don't mind the gold color scheme at all, but if they had swappable colors similar to how the GPUs did it, that could be a nifty feature.

Then again, some of the color scheme is applied to areas where stickers won't work easily. Such as heatsinks and VRMs. Hmm. I like the princple of swappable colors, it worked great on their latest DC 2 GPUs. Hopefully they can find a way to make that work on motherboards. I'd love that.

It shouldn't be hard to have a few extra SKUs of different themed motherboards. It would be nice to have the PCB, heatsinks, PCIe, and memory slots all a matching color!

I'd gladly pay an extra 50 bucks if it meant I could get a solid white board with some colors as an accent!
