Well I'm happy to buy from either scan, amazon, or ebay, and OCUK.

The 4870x2 consumes Watts like there's no tomorrow.

Yep, with the heat it produces and the power it uses, it's TCO has turned out to be quite high

Ideally I should just be able to beat this card in performance terms, one of the things with it is.. overclocking doesn't seem to do much outside of the stock frequencies, and with the heat.. well, deffo need an aftermarket cooler to get anything from an overclock (they didn't make them for long for this card so I missed out on that).

Uh? Why is every1 everywhere recommending always this card?

150 quid
Sapphire 270X Dual X
173 quid
Asus GTX760

Both of them arguably arround the same performance, with the GTX760 being a tad faster in some benchmarks.

I've been using one that my housemate let me borrow, but he moved out and the performance wasn't
worth me spending money and buying it off him, even if it would be for a few peas, considering the
monstrous power consumption we talked about. ~450W on full load... NOPE! Thank you haha
You're probably able to power 2 overclocked 760's with less and not cause a local power outage lol
I'm looking to get a GTX 760 myself, just not sure which model yet.
Deciding between the Asus DCU II, the Gainward Phantom or Msi TwinFrozr Hawk.

I'm going to discount wattage as being much of an issue then, as it seems only the 4870x2 can be such a hog.

Are these both definitely outperforming 4870x2?

I lost two PSU's to this card, one of which blew instantly when the machine was powered up. I upgraded the PSU again to make sure of good cooling, lower noise and to be able to even power the thing at stock clocks. Unlucky card all round lol.

Its good for it's size. But there are still better cards for a tad more. 760 and AMD 270 come to mind.
