Advice on free cloud-based word processor?

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I am a writer and am looking to move to being cloud-based with my word processing as I find myself writing across a range of devices and locations. I currently use google docs which gets me by but I hate their privacy policy and so want to change. I guess I'd like a few more formatting options as well, for instance indenting the second line of a run-on sentence (if that makes sense).

I am after a free, reliable, quick service. I don't need advanced features but as I say there are a few things that Google docs doesn't do that I would like. I definitely want somewhere that doesn't snoop/scan my documents, even if it is an automated system, as otherwise I would stay with google. Privacy is important to me. I would periodically back up the documents so the ability to download in various common file formats is needed too. I will either be using LibreOffice or OpenOffice offline (haven't decided which) so something that those apps can read would be good.

i have looked at zoho, cloudon, thinkfree, and am wondering if people can recommend any service in particular.

Thanks.

you can now get access to Microsoft Office for free online.

Only thing is you cant use it offline at all, you need to be connected to the internet, and you need to register an account as well (no biggy)

The problem you're going to run into is that you're not going to find any cloud-based service that doesn't snoop around the data you upload to it. They might claim they "don't do that," but they all do. Google is the worst about it, but they all data-mine user data for information, because they have to make money somehow. Creating and maintaining a reliable cloud-based service infrastructure takes a lot of money.

If privacy is that important to you, then you need to keep your documents on local machines only, and not on any cloud.
