Extra cooling for reference GPU (blower style fan), any ideas ?

Hi,

I am trying to help out a friend that is in another country cool a reference GTX 660 he has, it would be quite a challenge for him to take the gpu out and remove the plastic case and as he is in another country i am not able to do it for him (nor does he know anyone else thats into this kind of stuff).

My question now is, what would he be able to do to cool that card better without removing the plastic part ?

I've stayed and thought about potential solutions but couldn't think of anything useful, the first thing that comes to mind would be removing the plastic part and strapping a fan directly on top of the heatsink...but, thats not an option in this case, the other thing would be pointing a fan at the card though i don't know how much that will help since the heatsink itself is behind plastic.

Do you guys have any suggestions ?

The idea is to get as much Ambient temp (cool) air to the GPU as possible, so that it is not sucking in the warmer air inside the case.

this can be done by having extra fans on the side pointing directly towards the GPU (if he has a side door with fan mounts, or is willing to cut some blowholes.)

Adding more fans (or higher speed fans) to the case just to increase the overall airflow in the case. Always a good idea as it will cool everything more efficiently.

or by using a fan with a flexible duct attached to direct the outside air where you want it (the GPU fan intake in this case) : http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l3/g47/c121/s442/list/p1/Fan_Accessories-Fan_Accessories-Fan_Ducts-Page1.html

If you pull off the housing on the card, you will render the built in fan basically useless... as it will no longer pull the air over the heatsink, nor direct it out of the case in back... it won't be able to direct the airflow at all
