Sure, they've created a strong precedent in touch smartphones that didn't exist before them - hard to do so, as the tech wasn't there before 2006.

But they were just the most successful of that era, not the 1st. LG and other companies did produce touch smartphones before iOS was introduced.

Look at the side-by-side pictures, posted in this very thread.

The phones Samsung produced before the iPhone, then the iPhone, then the phones Samsung produced after the iPhone. How can you possibly claim that Apple is "ridiculous" in claiming infringement on their design?

Are you kidding me?

That's the hilarious but sad truth. All of the "copying" is superficial and meaningless, and Apple continues to try and shut down the competition with that crap. Why do people believe their "innovation" shtick? It was Steve Jobs who said he endorsed copying, and Apple products show far more meaningful copied tech than the stupid rubbish they sue against their competitors for. What some people are failing to realise is that Apple are basically using advertising and marketing tactics to make their claims seem valid. All they want is to steal some money and drive the cheaper and more attractive competition away from the market (using your taxpayer money!). People who can't see this are just the kind of people who Apple already sell their products to. People who are seriously susceptible to marketing guff.

And how else should a touch based smartphone be designed, all smartphone all look the same from the front, so do most of the tablet.

The same can be said for multiple thing, such as a computer moniter, should Asus sue, HP for using the same design for a monitor, or motherboard?

Android cheaper? My note 3 would like a word with you, as would my galaxy tab, galaxy s, and galaxy nexus. All of which were priced the same on and off contract as my iPhones and iPad.

Apparently you haven't seen the Samsung advertisements either. There's equally as much, as you put it, "crap" in those. If not more, I mean they took shots at Amazon, MS, and everyone else while they were at it.

Objectivity maybe? I know that is a long shot in an OCN Apple hatefest thread.

Have you seen the LG Prada? Do you want side by side pictures?
Do I have to find animated Linux GUI shells that had each and every iOS transition graphic in them years before iOS was out?

Apple took queues and improved upon existing designs. Introduced some original features and provided a more complete product.
Great. That's what new generations of products do. The iPhone was an amazing reboot into smartphones, not the virgin birth of a smartphone, not even of the touch smartphone.

Lets don't get into quoting Jobs and attaching pictures for the millionth time. The horse is dead.

Apple knows the "dirty tricks", cause they use them all the time.
Apple doesn't convince that they are doing it "better" and everyone tries to play catch-up using "the dark side".
Apple, Samsumg and Google are the "dark side", along with the other big names in this field - don't let their "Omertas" fool you.

I think apple needs to chill with the aspect of being copied. It's 2014, no one is going to buy a smartphone that isn't similar to other smartphones. My Note 3 is similar to the iphone 5s in many ways because that's what people demand in smartphones, NOT because Samsung copied apple. Ironically apple is suing people for being similar yet they release practically the same phone every year biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif.

Eh, off the top of my head, since I considered retailing phones for a bit, manufacture cost of the S4 is ~$245, while the Iphone 5S is ~$205, while they cost the same to buy. I suppose that's more about overpricing than about one being cheaper, but that still says the same thing. People are willing to buy Apple based purely off the fact that it's Apple. That's due to very effective and predatory marketing. Again, this "innovation" guff is about as pretentious and deceptive as can be. What the so-called infringements are, are minor incursions on aesthetics, and very basic and obvious functions. I see far more obnoxious infractions in iOS7's copying of Android, frankly. Just look at what actual results Apple wants from this lawsuit. See who has to gain what. Apple gains market dominance, and other companies get left with the dregs. Consumers get left with one choice: Apple. This is definitely about marketing, and this is definitely about the ethics of Apple. This is definitely not about "innovation".

Yeah, and compare the phone Apple helped develop (The Rokr) before the LG Prada was announced, Then the Prada, and then the iPhone, which was announced afterwards. Hmmm....

Of course, the Prada looks an awful lot like a PalmPilot, which looks an awful lot like the Newton, which looks an awful lot like a commercialized Sun Star7 or the IBM Simon.

The Simon, btw, was an All-touch phone with built in PDA functions. Released in 1993.

What's the point here, again?

I'll leave you with this quote from Jan 16th, 2007, days after the original iPhone announcement. Its a comment on an article about whether LG was going sue Apple. Before anyone released any of these phones to the public...
Quote:
Hmm…I have to imagine it’s going to be tough for LG to win this one, simply because the entire industry is probably going to move to handsets that look more or less like this–an iPod sized brick with a touchscreen. From that perspective, they’re all going to look more or less the same.
