I cut the slots for the gpu and the 24pin motherboard,4pin 12v, and the two 8pin pcie power cables

How are you going to deal with the power?

I wonder If something like a picopsu would get the board and drives covered so you only have to feed 12 volts(still need a decent size wire to bring the required wattage) into the system(feed the dc-dc pico and the video cards)

That would simplify the overall wiring of the system.

Its actually real simple, I will be using extensions for all the cable the same way I will be using quick disconnects for the water cooling. The exteernal power supply will simply attach to the back plate

I hope this better illustrates the idea

I see what you will do.

The idea of just needing one plug was just for simplicity.

you know I thought about that , they sell these pcb boards that you plug in one 12v and you can 're distribute the power to a different array of components however I was not conviced on how well the gpu would receive its power since it is a 14pin pcie
post #37 of 230
Well you would need some rather large cable coming in(maybe 12 or 10 gauge to play it safe. You should be able to get away with less because of the short run, but I do not want you to burn your house down).

It was just a though, You could solder all your pci-e cables to this heavy cable that comes in and send a run over to something like a pico psu or other dc-dc power supply.

You should ensure that your cable lengths are not too long for the size of wire you use.

It is mostly the motherboard power that takes lots of wire space, while a dc-dc power supply would allow JUST 12 to be sent to it.

EDIT.

Another thought would be about how much power a card will try to pull from the pci-e slot. While specs allow for 75 watts, dc-dc power supplies may not have the needed power for that type of thing. That is just one more thing to look at i guess.

I had looked into the Pico psu but my gpu power draw is about 270wat at max and the cpu about 95watts and including the other components almost 400 watts and I thought about daisy chain the Pico's

I got my 3 watt rgb for the case light, or I should say the water cooling lights
post #40 of 230
Yeah, PicoPSUs top out at 150w, won't do for any GPU that requires additional power.
