Gaming using different brands of peripherals?

Thread Starter
I have a decent gaming rig, but I noticed the other day that I use a Razer Deathadder Mouse, a Steel Series Headset, a Logitech G13 Gaming Pad and a Corsair Vengeance Keyboard. This all kind of happened one piece at a time slowly over the course of a year or so. Of course, this means that I have all kinds of software running on my PC to keep these peripherals optimized.

I don't notice it interfering with my gaming, but I do see ridiculously high memory usage in my processes, largely because of several different types of peripheral software running at the same time.

Do other gamers try to stick with one brand to run all of their peripherals from so that they can minimize software usage? Or does it really make much of a difference? I was thinking if I consolidate everything to Razer or Logitech I could just run Synapse or Setpoint and clean up my computer quite a bit.

I really don't think it makes that much of a difference. I use a Microsoft keyboard (Sidewinder x4), a Corsair mouse (Vengeance M65) and a Logitech headset (G35) and I don't see that much memory usage from assorted software. Then again, now that I think about it, I don't even have the software for the keyboard installed as I don't use the macro keys, or the software for the mouse as I have its settings saved in onboard memory and the software is not needed. HOWEVER, I did use to have all three pieces of software installed, on a laptop with only 6GB ddr2 and never saw memory issues.

I would not have thought it'd make a big difference. That said, my mouse, keyboard and headset are from Microsoft. As long as you aren't seeing noticeable performance loss while gaming, you should be okay. I think it's more important to pick the right peripherals that suit your needs (regardless of brand) rather than narrowing your options!

Out of these Razer is probably the most invasive with it's Synapse 2.0 spyware. Logitech drivers thend to be on the big side as well.

In general, however, there is nothing wrong using periphelias from different brands. Just use whatever is comfortable and has the features you want from the item and do not pay attention to brands.
