Does a 24 inch Ultrasharp and 23 inch line up?

Thread Starter
I currently have a U2311H, which I still like a lot. From what I've read, the U2312HM have inferior color due to the LED backlighting. I have a dual monitor set up with the U2311H and a 21.5 inch Asus. I've finally grown tired of the color difference and windows not lining up perfectly.

I'm hesitant on buying the new 23 inch Ultrasharp for not wanting to be stuck with 23 inch monitors and eIPS as opposed to an actual IPS. For that reason, I'm considering to purchase a 24 inch ultrasharp (U2412M).

My question: Will the windows line up between the monitors? Since the 24 inch is just a 23 inch monitor except has a taller panel in the y axis? So shouldn't they have the same PPI and match?

Edit: Apparently the U2412M is also an eIPS. Opinions of the H-IPS version?

The U2412m is also eIPS. And they will not line up, as their PPI are not the same. Is there some reason why eIPS is not good enough? Or is it more of a philosophical "I think I want 'better' technology" stance? The U2312hm doesn't really have "inferior" color, and would be the correct monitor to use if you want to match your previous U2311h. Seeing as how your U2311h is eIPS anyways, going full-bore 8-bit IPS (such as U2413/U2410, PA246q) may have more color differences than going with the similar tech of the U2312hm.

It won't line up - the U2412M has a higher resolution, which is 1920x1200 instead of 1920x1080. You'll therefore be forced to get another FullHD panel, if you want perfect collaboration between both displays. U2312HM is your best bet here. If there is really a difference that will put you off, cannot be told without you trying.

To get identical colors it'll likely need calibration or much time to work those out by hand satisfyingly anyways.

The U2312HM's 23.0" 1920x1080 panel is 11.28" high, with an overall PPI of 95.78.
The U2412M's 24.0" 1920x1200 panel is 12.72" high, with a PPI of 94.34.

The 24" panel will be 1064 pixels high at the point where the 23" ends (1080 pixels high on its panel). So it won't match exactly, but it will be pretty close.
