Even then you can still get the AS Rock Extreme 9 which is a good board, MSI 990FXA-GD80 is also good just got to compensate for VDROOP and the M5A99FX PRO R2.0 which I have which takes me to 5GHz without a hitch (I am running 4.8GHz for the time being until I get my loop finished up). You also DONT NEED custom water to get an 8350 cool. A dual tower air cooler like a Phanteks or Noctua NH-D14 or the Deepcool Assassin will serve you wonderfully up to 4.7GHz. A closed loop 240mm cooler will take you to 4.8GHz-4.9GHz. For this I would say Swiftec H220/320. You don't need THE BEST mobo to get the best out of your 8350. A crosshair is only really recommended if you are on DICE or LN2.

You most certainly don't need that high end of a board to achieve 4.6 on the intel either.
I agree with that as well. So ultimately the price for both platforms gets reduced considerably!

The way I see it, the FX slight cost reduction isn't worth the likely chance of playing a game that just wants strong IPC over high core count. We know that console games should be made to utilize 6 cores but that doesn't mean developers will magically optimize their software.

We PC users have typically had to have stronger hardware than necessary to push through bad optimization. This is an overall trend I never see ending. Because of that, the i5 makes the most sense.

intel cpu's = the ability to play anything.

FX = choose wisely.

Sure, anyone of us can find a gaming benchmark that shows the FX beating the i5. But for every 1 of those, we can fine 50+ showing favor toward intel.

Depends on what gpu and how many gpus. novices are not necessarily limited in budget, so they might be able to afford highend gpus. multi-highend, i'd say the i7. single highend, any of the first 2 will work.

With the exception of a few games, the i5 will always dominate the FX. I would get the FX, if you use a set of programs that run better on the it compared to the i5 and i7. The i5 is the logical choice for a gamer because the fps boost compared to a 4770k, even in triple-way crossfire/sli, is around 3.5% according to an article on anandtech (that I can't find atm biggrin.gif). Where the 4770k will show its strength is in synthetic benchmarks. Here, the i7 makes short work of the i5 and FX.
It has to be said though, that AMD getting its processor in the PS4 and XBONE will ensure that developers optimize games for AMD processors from now on. A mass benefit that AMD didn't really get before.

4670 obviously , however all 3 are nice CPU's and will run everything you can throw at them

100% difference. None of the games in those tests take any advantage of more than 4 cores there so an i7 equals an i5. Do the calculation, with AMD's crappy IPC you won't have a great performance per clock ratio and you'd most likely see a 30% gain at best.

Ok, Ok

'Guess I'll be going with the i7 and don't overclock because it doesn't make any sense since it dominates in every single game, benchmark and program.

Unless budget will be a problem I'll kinda have to go with the FX. Sure, crappy IPC but the fact that there are AMD processors in new consoles just makes me more confident in the FX.

Thank you guys for your inputs and help. thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif

p.s. Is there a best solution button or something similar?

Thanks again

Mods, go ahead and close the thread biggrin.gif:D:D
