So in other words developers will still make games optimized for Nvidia on PCs.

Consoles are not irrelevant anymore. New generation of consoles all run AMD 8 core x86-64 cpus with a radeon gpu. They're truly are PC's now. Xbox One uses DX11 and PS4 uses OpenGL. From a hardware point of view, they're already optimized for AMD cpus and gpu's.

Get an i7 2700k (they were considered golden Core i7 2600k's) and overclock it to 5.2ghz on the same cooling as anything else and outperform all of that? It's what I did thumb.gif

Haven't seen any massive multiplayer game (if you know a few tell me but wont exist) where I could have both of my 780's at 99% with my 3930K@whatever clock. Just in the middle of operation locker I still see dips to 80-90.

Go with the i5 4670k instead. i7's are useless for gaming. If you're not even overclocking, just get the cheapest i5 and the cheapest lga1150 board. Z87 isnt really worth it unless you want to SLI.

I can link you to a build log where Red1776 is doing an Ultra-High end AMD 8350 @ 5.2GHz and Quadfire 290X build. Point being to put to bed all of these facts. You already got served in the FX6350 vs 8320 thread. Lets not serve you again shall we. Google SLI LOW GPU USAGE. You will see it can be a common problem with CPU's right up to 4930K it isn't just limited to AMD's. If the FX's performance is so poor tell me why there is one in the to 30 list for Heaven 4.0 with 7970's? That is Red1776's OLD quadfire build and I am sure we will be seeing that number change soon as well. Also new evidence has come to light that AMD starts to gain more ground on Intel set ups at ultra high 1440+ resolutions. I am still doing my research on this and will report in sometime. The thing is I am not saying Intel is a bad choice. They are great. 4670 and 4770 together are awesome. Just don't come in here and expect a locked I5 to hold it's own. FX 83XX goes toe to toe with a 4670K and a 9590 can go toe to tow with an I7. Don't go basing your whole arguments on badly threaded games like WOW (2004?), Hitman (2011?) and Metro 2033 (2010). Their age is a problem.

You can put four 290Xs to a machine with a celeron. Doesn't mean that it wont bottleneck those GPUs.

If I recall Heaven/Valley are probably the most GPU bound benches out there (no AI, physics simulation or anything for the CPU) and again iirc Red had his quad 7970 beaten by pretty big margins by other quad 7970 owners and he was barely able to hang with two 690s or something. Only reason his FX was on that list was because there aren't many quad GPU setups around n the first place.

I have three Visheras, I've got a bunch of GPUs. FX doesn't stand a chance against an i7 with a single high end GPU let alone two, three or four.

Since when can a 9590 go "toe to toe" with an i7? Unless you mean the quad core i7s in very limited situations. And I love your "research" about AMDs doing better on 1440+ resolutions. I'm pretty sure my 4930K will make any FX CPUs look like a toy.

Red1776. Running stock clocks on the 7970's. Oh wait! ph34r-smiley.gif Is that an FX sticking it to the Intels back when 7970's were king? Oh dear! rolleyessmileyanim.gif Now here we put to rest one of the biggest myths of AMD SUX.... AMD does not seem to be bottlenecking 4 high-end GPU's. But 7970's are not high-end any more you might say. Well Red is redoing his build with 4 290X's. Ok but those are all Ivy's and Sandy E's, all the new records are held by Haswell's and Ivy E's you might say. That might be the case but a 5% improvement in IPC won't make the world of difference here. Once the build is finished we shall see the results! I rest my case. All 4 GPU's at 100% and CPU usage peaked at around 50% from what Red tells us. If you want a link to the quadfire 290X build that Red1776 is doing I'll post it below. When that build is complete I am sure he will once again be up there in the top 10.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1473361/amd-high-performance-project-by-red1776/80_40#post_22059685

EDIT: Even as it stands now he is still in the top 20.

Heaven / Valley are pure GPU benches.... They do not show CPU bottlenecks much more than GPU mining does.

In real games you'd have AI, physics etc. for the CPU to calculate. Besides, he's still getting left behind by dual 690s which are considerably weaker... Every other 7970 quad owner is ahead by a relatively big margin... And that's in a bench that's as GPU bound as you can get.

I really love it when people do my homework for me. Kudo's to @Mad Pistol and @diggiddi for doing all the hard work for me. I don't have I5's and massively powerful GTX780's and 7870XT;s to play with. But here is more information on FX really just showing HOW capable it really is. AMD FX PERFORMING WELL! This goes against the ESTABLISHED norms of society! We must beat these AMD peasants before they revolt and overthrow our blue palace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rolleyes.gifbiggrin.gif LOL. Thats really how it sounds to me when I go reading around....

Second video: BF4 Ultra default @ 1920x1200 (settings in video)System specs in forum signature.

Third video: BF4 Ultra default @ 1920x1200 (Intel i5 3570k @ 4.4Ghz, Crossfire HD 7870 XT @ stock)
The first two videos were taken inside on the map "Operation Locker" and Team Deathmatch w/ 64 players. In a situation such as this, it stresses the CPU because there are so many players in such a small space.

The third video was taken in an action part of Operation Locker on a system consisting of an i5 3570k @ 4.4Ghz and two HD 7870 XT video cards in Crossfire. Notice how the CPU utilization is @ 100% almost constantly, but the GPU utilization is @ 60-80% per GPU.

Let me say it again: An FX 8320 when overclocked is not... I repeat, NOT a bottleneck on BF4. Period.

If you wish to dispute my claims, I have two other videos I uploaded from the FX-8320/GTX 780 system that were recorded using Shadowplay on the same map. However, in the Shadowplay videos, they are all action sequences similar to the one that I recorded for the i5 3570k/Crossfire HD 7870 XT system. That way, we still have something that is pretty close to an apples-to-apples comparison.

I await your reply Faithh. I hope you have a good one this time. thumb.gif

HINT: The 3570k system doesn't perform as well as my FX-8320/GTX 780 setup... wink.gif
