Let me put it this way. How long does it take YOU to figure out how long you dislike something? Seconds? Minutes? MONTHS? I tried Win 8. I despised it from the start. Gave it about a week. That was enough. You are just going to have to accept that some people do not like it. And stop assuming the majority of those people didn't give it enough time/usage to feel otherwise. Your comment is no different to me than MS forcing the changes on people and just expecting them to swallow it.

There is no tweaking or setup method for it to be a likeable OS to me. Okay? Can you possibly fathom that? Is that even in the realm of possibility to you? You like it. Great. I don't. And I never will.

Somehow, your going to have to find a way to live with that. m'kay?
This.

I think of the windows 8 start menu like the "app drawer" on my smartphone. Once I started thinking of it that way, I got used to it. I still don't like it though. I work faster on a 7 machine for sure.

I can navigate unix and windows from the terminal. I wanted you to show everyone how to do it (which you have failed at doing so), showing at least one flaw in windows 8.

So there you have it. One flaw which you have failed to get around and your answer was to paste the user and pass in cleartext into the username box?

And you dare call people old tech? funny guy

First of all, the ways I have listed do work. I don't know how you could deny it. This isn't a problem for anyone I know. Like I said before I was able to do it and everyone in my 50+ person work group was able to do it (including people that don't know anything about computers outside of architecture/estimating programs) and yet we have supposedly tech savvy people asking how they can type in vpn credentials. doh.gif At a certain point I just can't take you seriously at all. You went to prove how bad windows 8 is and only proved you are a terrible problem solver than can't adapt to a situation. You get the credentials in once and save it I don't know how it could be so difficult as to influence your experience with the rest of the operating system. I'm sorry but you are going to have to come up with better or more excuses to hate on win8 and have it actually be valid. Nitpick/cherrypick much?

Dude...insulting someone to make your point is probably not the best way to go about things.

At any rate, right or wrong, there IS push back against Windows 8. I've had family call and ask what the big deal is because they were told it's not very good. One of the last times I was at Micro Center I was behind a few people in line that were discussing Windows 8 shortcomings. Were the facts presented proven fact? I have no idea. The important part is that those folks were not willing to purchase the product. Whether or not Windows 8 is superior on paper is a moot point.

Right, I should have just resorted to repeating "you failed" in my post and then ignore everything he has to say since that's moving the conversation forward...

Finally they giving the choice for a start menu. I will have to pass this onto my Dad so he can update my Mom's laptop that has Windows 8 on it once this update comes out. My Mom not very tech savvy at all, so Windows 8 was a bit of a nightmare to try to show her how to launch a program with or to even shutdown. My parents even called me the first day they bought the laptop asking where the shut down button in W8 was. rolleyes.gif Kind of glad I played around with the preview version so I knew where it was, but not touch 8 since than.

For shutdown and sleep you can just use the physical buttons of the notebook.

What made me afraid to put it on that kind of notebook was the Metro apps. If I'd forget to catch any of the file associations and one of the apps would start after opening some file, they wouldn't know how to get out and back to the desktop and would phone me. tongue.gif

I'd have liked to see it on that particular notebook as it's pretty old and 8 might have felt a bit more snappy than 7.

Lately MS is waking up. Seems kinda late but better late than never. Let's see if MS can adapt to the future.

From a technical standpoint, Linux is a great OS however that doesn't take into account looks, how well the user can actually use it, etc. Considering you'll be seeing the damn thing nearly every day I think saying "I think this is ugly" is a fair enough reason to not want to use 8.

Sure its a fair reason for you not to want to use the OS (hell, anything is really) but it is not a fair enough reason to go around trying to convince others who may know nothing about it that its a bad OS.

There's also something else I don't understand about you guys? You talk about Windows 8 all the time, about how its utterly unusable and a total disaster, so then how do you explain why there are so many people that actually quite enjoy it? Granted, its a minority overall, but I can tell you right now if the OS was as unusable and terrible as you guys make it out to be I wouldn't be sitting here right now typing up about how much I love it.

I mean, are you saying that those of us that like the tiles and the start screen are just idiots, is that it?

A very significant improvement! For people who don't know how to press Win key...
