Is the 780 worth the extra money over the 770? - Page 3

In %90 of cases with games up to 2010 a 780 is MASSIVE overkill.
However! Having a 780 with BF4 is great!

The other fun thing about the 780, or even a 290 for that matter, is the ability to play with INSANE levels of AA. So it is more than just playing a game. You can play with graphical settings that would cripple a weaker card, It allows you to flex your graphical demand for perfection biggrin.gif

Stacraft II

Borderlands

Alice: Madness Returns runs well too, but PhysX on anything but low kind of kills it.
Same with Borderlands II, it's a weak card for PhysX.

many 770's boost to within like 50mhz of their max OC at stock (on factory oc models) while the 780's can be 200mhz+ away from what you can realistically achieve for 24/7 gaming

they have 50% wider memory bus, 3gb VRAM, more ROP's, 50% more shaders and TMU's - you can realistically run like 1.4x the performance

I don't really like 770 so much - 760 is just a 770 with a few parts disabled, and 770 falls awkwardly between 760 and 780 in that it's not one of the higher end potentials (beat by like 1.4x by 290/780) but it costs a lot, too. 2gb VRAM stands out a little on a card of this power too, it's the strongest 2gb VRAM card

Overclock it and it will be close to GTX 780 speed, more than enough. If you cannot play at maximum settings then lower the AA (not needed at 1440p or above btw), or find that setting that virtually makes no difference and that taxes your gpu for absolutely nothing.

Being unable to max a game out with good fps(not 30) is reason enough for some people to consider the 780 worth it.

?

Warranties are cards depending on brand are transferrable. Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, you get a 3 year warranty from date of purchase with the card. Sell it to someone else and they can use that warranty as long as you provide them a copy of a receipt. I have sold many (many) video cards here over the years.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a used card that is out of warranty but anything with 1-2 years left should be fine.

EVGA is the only company that makes you register for extended warranty. XFX has a transferrable extended warranty.

I tend to stay away from the other brands (PNY, Zotac, etc.)

absolutely, the 770 is marginally quicker than a 680, and in many cases it actually isn't faster than a flashed / modded 680.

the 780 has the headroom to play many games at ultra 1080 maxed

except crysis 2/3 , far cry 3 and assassins creed 4 I've found.

pm me if you want detailed benches / perf reviews in any specific game.
1080p is still a resolution to be reckoned with and those fps you get in all the reviews do not use vysnc thumb.gif

yes but if you use a card for say 1 year, and the card has a 2 year warranty. that's only half of the warranty left. but yes i agree, if the seller such as yourself were to offer warranty info and proof of purchase with the used card i would be more inclined to buy it. you serve a good point.
