Most Steam Machine like small form factor cases? Downsizing for dorm room. - Page 2

Looking at that Raven, I'd say it's no bigger than most steam boxes I've seen, and I don't think it's bigger than the Xbone... It's only 15 inches wide and 13 inches deep. That's only a slightly larger footprint than your average laptop....and the 4 inch height looks awesome for a small build.... You now have me tempted to get this for my 7850k...

You might want to give the Silverstone Sugo SG10B a look, I'm contemplating downsizing to this and it looks to be pretty small and expandable, cost might bea bit high however.

Meh a tad to tall. I'm hoping for something console sized/shaped. Actually considering my own scratch build at this point thinking.gif however I'm completely new to such a concept...

The SG10 is another awesome case, I used to own it in the Fall. The issue is that this case is even bigger in terms of height size than the Node 304 that was suggested earlier.

If you're looking for console size, take a look at that RVZ01, you will not be disappointed.

That MSI 7950 will just fit(1mm spare) in an silverstone sg05 without mods. That is the smallest case by volume you will fit it in. If you want portability and power thats what I would recommend, and its cheap too.
The most steambox like case is the silverstone rvz01. Its more expensive, bigger and heavier but has a thin form factor.

Another option is a Lian-Li PC-TU100. This is good if you want the best portability as it has a carry handle and is made of aluminium so its more lightweight. You would have to change to a shorter card with his case such as the 760 mini or a shorter r9 270.

All of these cases use sfx power supplies which are currently limited to 450w but this will be fine unless you do crazy overclocking. (270 will be fine with 300w)

If you want to go any smaller the only option is to get a low profile card. The best option by far for this is the 750 ti low profile. It carries no price premium(at least in my country) and will still play games well.
This will allow you to use a more console size case like the Antec ISK300-150. The 750ti only uses 60w so the 150w included power supply should be adeqeute for any intel cpu.

If you want to go the APU route (not recommended if gaming as it gives very bad price to performance) then something like the Antec ISK 100 is tiny.

I would recommend going an intel cpu (i3 or i5) unless you are using the APU intergrated graphics. If you must go AMD then a AMD Athlon X4 760K is the same the same CPU as the APUs without the intergrated graphics. I would recommend intel though as they run much cooler.

Hope that sums up most of the different options. I would recommend the SG05 route personally, but if your not doing as much intensive gaming and want to go really small than a low profile GPU build is also a good option.

Already did, that thing is cool, but it's still huge( at least horizontally).

Considering it, but it's still relatively bulky...trying to find a comparison between that and a valve steam machine...

Every steam machine I have seen has been a little different depending on the company making it, so it's hard to gauge size exactly... In that pic it looks like the raven is slightly smaller than the Asrock case... And here is a size comparison of the Asrock next to an original white 360

It does have some bulk, but I can't imagine it being that much larger than the xbox one...

Actually considering the Raven more and more here, could buy that, a 450w SFX psu, slot loading drive, and FX stock heatsink for less than $250 thinking.gif ...

You know, I've been wanting to build a "PC inside a 360 case" mod for quite a while. Did a mockup with an ITX board an 250 I have lying around, and it looks like it'd all fit thinking.gif I'd need some kind of power brick setup though...and a dremel biggrin.gif
