HP Pavilion dv6871us screen problem

Hey guys, my grandmother was about to throw away this laptop because it has a vertical green line running across the right side of the screen. I figure I'll try to get it fixed for them so they don't have to spend money on a new one. I reinstaled windows from the recovery partition thinking it might be a corrupted driver, and nothing. Then I thought it could be one of the ribbon connectors going from the mobo to the screen, so I disassembled the whole thing, cleaned it up, put it back together and nothing. Then I thought it was the display adapter, but when I plug in an external monitor it works just fine. I just need somebody more tech savy than me, that can figure out what the issue is. I thought about replacing the display adapter, but its built in so I would have to buy a entire motherboard, and I want to avoid that unless is absolutely necessary. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I would think that would indicate the screen on the laptop is bad, since everything works fine, except the screen. No?

That was my first thought, but I came across a thread in another website with a similar problem, and he replaced the screen and a converter? and it didn't solve the problem. I'll see if I can find it and link it. BTW thanks for the link.

Also, by any chance do you know, or anybody else that can contribute, why this laptop won't recognize a Agility 3 120GB? There are no options on the BIOS to see connected devices, and when I put in the SSD and tried to install windows, it would get to the screen where you have to choose the partition to install windows, and nothing would show up?
