[pcper] Frame Rating: Battlefield 4 Mantle CrossFire Early Performance with FCAT - Page 4

My green lines are not thin at all like in that example with r9 290 crossfire. I've tried even moving from Sandybridge to Haswell and it hasn't fixed the issue. *** is the problem I'm having? 100 fps in the game feels like 30 fps a lot of the time.... Frame pacing does nothing.

This illustrates the graph I'm getting...

Your cpu is not the problem it is clearly the gpu that is causing it. As can be deducted from the graphs.
Except for that where is spikes like crazy there the cpu is the problem since the gpu is waiting for data.

14.4 is still 2 weeks or so away but in the Mantle discusion topic there will surely be people able to help you.

exactly what i was thinking either there is a bug or needs xyz before it registers - but if people are saying its lot smoother then something is working thumb.gif

I think something was wrong when they ran the i7 bench, it seems to be hard-limiting to 80 FPS for most of the run. If it's frame-pacing in Mantle limiting it to 80 FPS, why don't we see that with the A10-7850K?

Thats dx vs mantle

Mantle is going to be an absolute game changer for 295X2. 7990 got absolutely destroyed when Nvidia dropped FCAT on AMD's lap. AMD had a pure FPS winner and their parade was completely rained on by Nvidia bringing up frame times.

But it's looking like it's a great thing Nvidia made a huge deal out of it. It looks like Mantle is going to be a massive game changer for multiple GPU setups and it's going to be AMD only unless Nvidia wants to adopt Mantle as well. Or maybe MS can make DX12 work just as well on Nvidia hardware, but I would trust a GPU designer to create an API that control the GPU they designed over Microsoft.

I get that sometimes with a single card. I have noticed that AMD drivers have some sort of thing that sometimes the frame time just gets absolutely terrible until you start alt-tabbing out of your game and closing things like Firefox. I have no idea how, but it happens to me in Linux AND Windows.

The performance of that frame pacing method ( the default one) is significantly worse than dx 11. We are talking 30-60 fps worse. If I wanted a frame rate like that, I'd just use one card. It needs work. Secondly these guys do not let the benches run long enough. If you run it long enough, you'll eventually start to see mantle start to hiccup more and more frequently. That's my 2 cents. Also do no not believe anyone's claims of how awesome mantle is and how smooth it is, unless they can show you a 15 minute run with no smoothing in bf4fta.

There are two curves for Mantle, that's what I'm talking about. Not the DirectX 11 curves.

Something went wrong look at how flat that line is. They should btw match up if there is no cpu overhead.

That hard limit of 80 fps (on my rig its 88 fps), is a bug. If you hit escape and change AA (either higher or lower) and than go back to the game it will become a 90 fps hard limit, do that again it becomes 100, do it again 110, etc.... Its so annoying I refuse to use mantle over DX.
