D2 was an amazing and groundbreaking game on many levels, D3 isn't and never will be. If you compare most games to D2, they are crap... that doesn't mean D3 isn't a good game on it's own. The sooner people stop comparing D3 to D2, I think the sooner they can enjoy D3 for what it is.

You stated that if you counted the bundles correctly, it wouldn't be outselling D2. So my question is this, how do you know that they didn't already properly count the bundles? For example, if enough D2 owners purchased LoD standalone and then newcomers posted the bundle and D2 owners > newcomers, it is possible for LoD to outsell D2, unless something is wrong with my math (entirely possible tongue.gif). That was my point. Sorry if I did not state it clearly.

D3 is the successor to D2 so of course the two will be eternally compared to each other and IMO they should be. It also serves to mention that the original D3 dev team did nothing but attempt to belittle things that the D2 crew had done. You can tell it especially from a lot of Jay Wilson's interviews. It was like they were trying to prove that they could make their own and that it would be better. I personally think they SHOULD be compared to each other, but again, thats just my opinion.

I tried giving D3 a chance, and letting it be what it is; unfortunately I can't enjoy crap. Also, you can't really cut D3 too much slack on the D2 comparison, as it is a continuation of the franchise! It is only fair that we compare D3 to D2, just as we did D2 to D1; which D2 took everything great about D1 and expanded on it.

That being said, I do want to give D3 another chance after the changes, I just won't do it at full retail. when I can buy the expansion and original at 50%+ off each, I will give it a go again.

There's something very wrong with your math tongue.gif.

Assume every single person who bought D2 buys the expansion when it comes out. You now have a 1:1 sales ratio, they both have the same sales.

Now take some new people coming in, wanting to play, so they buy the LOD expansion. They can't play until they buy D2 vanilla. If it's in a bundle, they bought both games...

The only way a (non-standalone like LOD) expansion could outsell the vanilla version is if people buy the box to stare at it... since you can't play it without buying the vanilla game. The expansion could easily outsell vanilla in a specific period (I.E when xpac comes out, more people buy it since they already have the original game), but it wouldn't make sense for it to outsell overall.

Or they pirated the vanillia version, and bought the expansion because they liked the vanilla version.

Which, I do know of about a dozen people who did exactly this.

I would think the sales figures being wrong is much more probable then people pirating vanilla, buying the expansion (which would be offline only), and doing it in large enough numbers to not only offset the people who didn't buy the expansion, but end up buying more.

As for comparison of D3 to D2; it was very fair to do that at launch. I think it's just best to move on and take the game for what it is at this point though.

Yeah you are completely correct. After I actually thought about it, I realized it didn't make sense. tongue.gif Thanks for pointing that out! thumb.gif (no sarcasm) A possible explanation would be piracy or if D2 was bundled free.

Oh boy... if we talk about the things they SHOULD/NEED to bring back, we are going to be here for years. To me D3 was like the dev team trying to improve D2 by adding more sides to a wheel so to speak. I'm sitting here going "But you made a worse game" and they are sitting on their side going "But look how many features (sides) it has now."
