This game is worth every penny that the AH paid for me. Although I guess they still have $.80 that I can't get off my account in any worthwhile way...

I am waiting for prices to drop to $20 before playing. D3 left such a bitter taste in my mouth that I refuse to pay full price for another Blizzard game. I am very interested in how the xpac develops though and see if the new dev team can properly salvage the D3 name. Also... screw Jay Wilson and may he burn in Video Game Hell for all eternity. biggrin.gif

Just bought Diablo 3 base and played through. Was a little disappointed at how short it was. Felt like when I played Diablo 2 it took longer. Don't think I'll be buying the expansion till it comes down in price. Got the main game for $20, don't think I'm going to pay double for an expansion.

Diablo III 1.0 is a good game.

Yes, you heard me. It's a good game. It's not a spectacular, flawless, amazingly awesome game like what people were expecting, but it is a good game. But because of those sky-high expectations from Diablo II, people give it more crap than it deserves. Yes, the AH and RMAH were a bad idea. Yes, there were itemization issues. Yes, there were distinct, clear flaws.

But if this weren't a Blizzard game, and weren't called Diablo, people would have thought "Eh, pretty good. I'd play it." You wouldn't see this level of raw hatred and indignation about it.

Diablo III 2.0 is a much better game. If you had written it off before, you might want to give it a shot again. Even without the expansion, it's dramatically improved, from the leveling process to level-cap gear farming. The expansion makes it all the better, particularly with Adventure Mode, which while it is just a way of doing the same loot grind that Diablo has always been, it's structured in a way to keep things fresh and moving, rather than "another baal run. again. yay." Even playing in the same act in Adventure mode is different with each game, with different areas and targets for the bounties. You get your loot grind, but it's much less grindy.

Meh. The game is still fundamentally the exact same: fun for 20-40 hours, then boring with absolutely nothing interesting to do; there is no meaningful endgame and absolutely zero point to re-rolling a character since you can't do new builds (IMO this is the greatest longevity problem).

Pass from me. I expect one to two orders of magnitude more possible playtime from this genre than that to be worth $60. PoE will always be the true Diablo 2 successor in my mind.

Just going to point this out...

Diablo III sold 3.5 million copies in the first DAY, had sold 6 million copies in the first week. This number doesn't even include the 1.2 million copies given away during the World of Warcraft annual contract promotion, or the copies to Korean Cyber Cafes.

Here we are with the expansion, and in a week it has sold only 2.7 million copies.....

If that doesn't speak to how bad Blizzard screwed the franchise up, I don't know what does.

While there is some degree of truth here, ultimately this argument is laughable. If we are talking about comparing D3 to today's crappy standards for video games, then fine, D3 wasn't a bad game. One can argue that it was pretty good for the first 30-40 hours. However, would even Blizzard (the old Blizzard that actually had a gamer's soul, not the one that sold its soul to Craptivision) be OK with being compared with other crappy developers when they took such pride in the sterling quality they were renowned for? I know Blizzard of old definitely would not have been content with it, especially considering that D3 won no awards whereas people were tripping over themselves to throw awards at D2 and D2: LoD. What ultimately made D3 such a huge bust was the fact that they had this wonderful template with D2: LoD and out of the inexcusable arrogance of Jay Wilson and his dev team, they threw out that template and tried to do their own thing and "prove" they were better than Blizzard North. Those very issues that you mentioned, none of them should have existed to begin with. That it had to take them over a year to not only finally get around to fixing the issues as well as delivering a half-assed version of dueling was simply unacceptable as a paying customer. The fact that they absolutely destroyed my Wizard over and over and over with back breaking nerf after nerf without at least compensating me for all the time wasted on grinding for gold to purchase the later ineffectual gear, was inexcusable to me. Like I said, D3 burned the bridge for me pretty bad and I will have to wait for RoS to drop significantly in price before I even consider giving it another chance.

I've washed my hands of this game and there's no way in hell I'm going back and giving Blizz any more money regardless of how good the expansion and game has become. It's good to know that they've made some changes and are finally going in the right direction but too little too late for me personally. Awesome for everyone currently enjoying the game though.
