I really hope the rumors I've heard about HTC releasing a WP8.1 version of the M8 are true! :fingerscrossed:

For anyone interesting in unlocking, rooting, and flashing their M8 check out WinDroid Universal HTC Tool Kit. Nice tool for all carriers, the VZW variant cannot be unlocked (yet?).

I think the Verizon version can be unlocked, just not through the all in ones. As far as I know, at least.

Incorrect, you unlock the phones though HTC's website and VZW does not allow it. Someone will have to figure out how to unlock the bootloader specifically for VZW. The tools just help automate the process instead of having to manually use adb commands.

Interesting, I thought both Sprint and Verizon models achieved unlock a while ago. Sorry, I'm on AT&T and I know for sure TMobile can be unlocked as well. I usually just visit the main HTC One M8 forum on XDA, and not particular carrier forums of the device. So, Verizon can't even be unlocked using the "Other Device" option on HTCDev? That's odd.

Your confusing S-Off and and unlocking the bootloader, VZW had S-Off before the other variants. :thumb:

I have AT&T as well, and only visit the main HTC One M8 forum. :D

My only two issues with this phone are it's physical size (it's just too tall for my liking) and that stupid black bar which makes the display lop-sided.

I know it goes against what Google wants but they may as well have utilzed that black bar space to put the back, home and recent apps button.
Once the on-screen buttons come up you get a depressing hit in screen real estate given how large the phone is to begin with.

As far as what I like, well there's plenty there.
The phone is blazing fast (Sense 6 is actually good, and coming from TouchWiz on a GS2 it's even more dramatic of an improvement), audio is fantastic (speakers even make calls great), and the headphone out has oodles of power.

I want to love this phone, and at times I really do - but whenever I have operate it one handed or jam it in/out of my pocket I get reminded of how the form factor kills it for me.

If you go with Viper ROM, you can hide the nav bar at the bottom and use Pie Controls instead.
