Lamptron FC5 V3

Thread Starter
So I have a slight build change. Going to use pwm's on the nh-d14 and a friend is going to give me a couple fans for the case. I like the Lamptron FC5 V3, but they seem hard to find. Are they worth the price? With them being sold out everywhere, I was curious if they were that good or is the company having a problem keeping up with demand?

Thanks in advance.

You do realize that the FC5 is not PWM compatible, right? It only has 3-pin connectors (power, ground, Tach.. no PWM wire).

I have two Lamptrons... FC9 and FC8, love both of them.

FC5 - they are in stock here (assuming you are US based) http://www.amazon.com/FC5-Channel-30W-LCD-Controller/dp/B00DQSTP0O

In stock here also : http://www.frozencpu.com/products/20979/bus-354/Lamptron_30W_-_6_Channel_Aluminum_Rheobus_w_Multi_Color_Backlit_LED_-_Version_3_-_Black_FC-5V3_w_Brighter_Display.html

Thanks cgipson1. I did not know that, but all the fans I planned on using were non pwm. I was going to hook up the pwm fans to the cpu fan slot. Do think the controller is a better way to go instead of something like fan xpert to control the non pwm fans?

Personally. I find that Fan Expert is a little squirrelly and doesn't always work the way you expect it to. It depends on what fans you use, and how they are setup. I finally just said the heck with it, and used a manual fan controller (workstation in my sig). That way I KNOW what the fans are doing, lol!

But try it and see if you like it... many do.

Thanks. I agree. I think this controller would be easier on me, just wondered if I was over buying. Trying to keep this thing simple for me and my son.

I have never used a fan controller, so where are the best spots to put the temp sensors that come with this unit?

Usually you want to put them where the hotspots are... as close to the GPU or CPU (I usually put them between heatsink fins) as possible, so that you can judge temps, and get an idea is something is spiking. If you were watercooling, you would want a coolant temp. Maybe one on the chipset heatsink since you have multiple sensors, even on on a ram heatsink if you want (although DDR3 doesn't get hot unless OC'ing it... and one on the mobo in a random spot. Mostly it depends on what you want to keep track of.

Cgipson1, thank you for taking time to answer all my questions. I was getting ready to hit the purchase on this one and then I started reading how people were saying the control knobs were very sensitive. Then I got to thinking about the reason for this was ease of use for my son. I think he is more of a turn it on and go person, where I am a lets tinker with it till we make it better (or break it...lol) person. I can see him off at school with a friend or room mate who has to always jack with the control knobs and then my son turning them way up or way down. Maybe I am over thinking, but I do that a lot. Anyway, I went back to the original plan that doyll suggested in another thread with the pwm controller. If it doesn't work out, then I will go this route. Everything is ordered except for the case and I will pick that up Sunday. Thanks again as you were very helpful.
