3570k voltage problem

Hey guys. I've been noticing some issues with my CPU core voltage recently, and I was hoping one of you guys would have an answer. There seems to be some discrepancy between different programs of which core voltage my CPU is actually running at:




I have my CPU overvoltage set to "high" in the BIOS, and it seems as though CPUZ and Hardware Monitor say it is running around 1.14v, HW monitor also says it is running at 1.286V? What is the VID and why is it so high? These numbers were taken while running Prime95 at stock clocks.

The VID is not your actual core voltage. It's been said on here that it's just an informative number, telling you what the voltage might need to be at for that specific multiplier in order to achieve stability. So, each multiplier has its own VID. You will see the VID change as the multiplier changes. So, how can we achieve stability with a much lower core voltage if the VID is a lot higher than the core voltage that we're using? That's easy to answer with two words: good motherboards.

 

So, there is no discrepancy.

i was always wondering what that vid was.

i have also a 3570k and at this moment in coretemps my vid shows 1.1859v, cpu is at 5ghz with 1.370vcore. big difference between both. normal? mobo is maximus v gene

no one can run 5ghz on ivy with such low vcore.

I don't know, but I feel that the VID can be completely ignored. It can be useful if you want to use the Offset core voltage mode because the offset voltage subtracts from or adds to the VID of the current multiplier (whatever it happens to be at any given second). Beyond that, I find the VID to be useless information.

wow thanks you've answered an other question i had in my mind. i've always set vcore manually but im interested to use offsets mode so i could then use speedstep to lower speed when on idle. but i was wondering on what voltage this offset was referenced to.

so basically if my vid is at 1.1859v and i need to go to 1.370v what should be the offset? am i understanding correctly?

To find out, just find the difference between the VID of your overclocked multiplier and your idle voltage while using a manual voltage. Then, take that, round it up and down to the nearest 0.005V increment. If the idle voltage is higher, then you want to add that difference to the VID, meaning that you use the positive offset sign. If the idle voltage is lower than the VID, then you'd use the negative one.
