I think I derped my SSD, any suggestions on what to do?

I'm currently using a 775 system and I was attempting to resolve another unrelated issue which resetting the bios to defaults may have helped resolve and I unwittingly created an even bigger problem. I forgot that 775 defaults to IDE so when I reset the bios to defaults it reverted my SSD from AHCI to IDE and now it won't boot into windows. Do I have to reformat now? the computer just BSOD's when I try and boot into windows.

Did you change it back to AHCI yet?

Nope. Just switch the SATA controller in the BIOS back to AHCI mode. After that, start Windows, wait for it to finish starting up, give it a healthy reboot (choose Restart from the Start Menu), and then you'll be all set.

Sean: if he had, then he wouldn't be having a problem.

Yep, I switched it back to AHCI right after I realized what I had done. finally managed to get it into the system restore option, had to drop it down to 1 ram stick. I think my board or my ram might be going. Good to know it's not the SSD. Thanks guys.

I thought you were saying that it was still in IDE mode. That's why I said what I said.

Damn. I apologize profusely.

Sad to hear. frown.gif 775 was a great platform, I hope you give it a proper burial before headed out to Fry's to pick up a new Haswell or whatever build.

Can you experiment with putting the memory module back in the slot?

Thanks guys, I actually managed to get it working. After I had it stable with one stick I went and bumped up the DRAM voltage slightly and managed to get it to boot properly. It looks like this 775 build has a bit more life left in it, and it's up to 8 gigs of ram now. biggrin.gif

So, it's working again with both sticks?

If so, then all that happened is the previous settings had a higher voltage.

I had it set to 1.9 before when it was 2x2 gigs, but I put in two more matching sticks so it's 4x2 gigs now and had to bump the voltage to 1.95 to get it to boot properly.

Edit: Ram sticks rated for 1.9 default
