Looking for a fingertip optical mouse

Thread Starter
Hey guys,
I recently came back to QL after a few year break and the time has come for me to get a new mouse.

I am a long time Roccat fan and I've been using first Kone for about 5 years already. I'm quite used to the shape and the mouse is still going strong without any issues whatsoever (it is true, haven't had a single problem during all those years - even the scroll is still working fine and I've never had it replaced, although the clicks are not so strong nowadays).
Thing is, after coming back to Quake I realized that this mouse is just a bit too heavy for my grip style - and I've been thinking about switching back to optical for quite a while already.

I am considering either Roccat Kone Pure Optical or Roccat Savu.
I heard a lot of good things about Zowie mice as well and that makes me want to consider Zowie EC2 eVo CL (or EC1 - no idea to be honest, I know it is a bit bigger). Do you have any suggestions?
I'm a bit afraid of Zowie, because I got used to Roccat features - the drivers are great, I want to use one mouse for both my daily work and gaming and I tend to use scroll tilting a lot (which I can easily replace with Easy-Shift in case of 2d scroll). Also, you might laugh at me but I am really looking forward to the RAD system - I've always been curious about the statistics of clicks, scrolls and distance moved tongue.gif It's obviously not a deal-breaker though and I can live without it just fine - tilt/easy-shift is much more important to me. Also I really like the rubberized coating on Roccat mice.

So, to sum things up:
I want an optical mouse, tend to fingertip while playing (although I sometimes use palm when web browsing).
I don't care about DPI at all, switch between 800/1600 right now (gaming/web), but I'll simply adjust it. Sensitivity is about 25cm/360.
Budget is not an issue.
I am going to play pretty much only QL.
I like and trust Roccat, but I'm willing to try something new if you think it's better for me.
My hands are slim but rather big. Nothing gorilla-like, but I'm tall.
My mousepad at the moment is Roccat Hiro.

Thanks for reading, appreciate all the suggestions!

btw, Is there maybe some sort of software to mimic Easy-Shift style mouse button combinations with Zowie mice? Or any other way to add similar functionality? I need basic inputs, like key presses - no macros or anything complicated like that.

I have the Roccat Savu and Kone Pure Optical. The sensor is great in terms of having no acceleration and a high perfect control speed (although a small number of users have claimed that the sensor has a strong smoothing algorithm which manifests itself as innaccuracy and input lag).

I preferred the Savu because it was slightly lighter and I found the surface a bit easier to grip. But there isn't much in it and if you're used to the Kone shape then it may make more sense to stick with it.

The Zowie mice will be quite different. They use the same 3090 sensor as the Roccat mice, but use a custom lense. This reduces the lift off distance (which a lot of people prefer, but it can also cause tracking issues on some surfaces). It also changes the DPI values to 450, 1150 and 2300 which are not to everyone's tastes. The Zowie mice also use Huano switches, which are considerably harder than the Omrons used in the Roccat mice and may not be as well suited to quick reaction shots in QL. That said the Zowies are also good mice and whichever one you go with should be a smart choice.

Hope that helps.

I also have both the Savu and KPO. I preferred the KPO over Savu simply because the shape of the Savu was too narrow for me. I have medium size hands and my hand would feel uncomfortable after a few hours of gaming on the Savu. The slightly wider shape of the KPO just felt more comfortable to me. The rubber coating on the KPO also feels better than the Savu imo.

zowie mice are great and light.

logitech g100s is underrated as well

i haven't had a Roccat yet, actually ordered a wired Pyra, but for whatever reason its supposed to take a month to arrive. I guess it was being stored in the Saharan Desert or something.

So out of those you mentioned i guess you'd be satisfied with the Kone Optical the most just because you're a Roccat fanboi & got used to the shape tongue.gif

While this sounds abit like a troll i really mean it, go for it.
In any way you can send it back if you might not like the Sensor performance.

I think the Huanos are perfectly fine for quick reaction shots; IMO they suck when it comes to situations where you have to spam them non-stop in certain games, which can create some intense hand tension. And as others have said before, it's a lot worst on the FK (compared to my EC2 evo) because of the shell design.

FK and EC2 are both great mice. If you get the EC2 I suggest getting the white version as that coating has a bit more grip to it. Plus it looks bad ass.

KPO will work great. With Zowie you will have literally zero software features because there is no software to go with them.

yeah, KPO seems like the obvious choice. It has a great sensor and the software and ergonomics you know you like.
