GA-78LMT-USB3 Rev 5.0 HELP!

post #1 of 32
Thread Starter
Hello there. So I was following this thread http://www.overclock.net/t/1418383/fx-6300-ga-78lmt-usb3-rev-5-0-overclocking-so-far and a lot of you guys have success with this hardware combination so I decided to purchase the same setup from a member at HF. Dual channel configuration won't work. I have also tried installing a single ram on slot 2 or slot 4, neither will make my pc boot even on bios. I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong or the board I bought is definitely faulty. When ram are installed on slot 1 & 2 or 3 & 4, even on bios one ram is only recognized(4094M). I tried installing 1 ram stick at a time and results are the same. Slot 1 or 3 = success boot / Slot 2 or 4 = fail boot. When ram sticks are installed both on 1 and 2, dual channel is not enabled and Windows system recognize my ram as 6.00GB (3.98GB usable) Here's a screenshot:

Here is the diagram for the memory slots page 4 http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-78lmt-usb3_v.5.0_e.pdf

Here are the kits I used:
Here is a screencap of the bios voltages settings:

Clearing CMOS didn't help.

I really appreciate any advice. I am gonna head to bed for now, been staying up late trying to sort this out. I will get back to this thread when I wake up. Thanks in advance.

Could be a faulty ram stick. Could also be some setting. Have seen a few others who did have this problem after a quick google search. Your problem looks kind of tricky. However, I'm sure the guys here on OCN will gladly help you :-)

Just to clarify what you are saying, you're not trying to use the HyperX and the Sammy memory together at the same time right?

Dumb question, but your using an 64-bit version of Windows, right?

@mdocod no I only used the Hyper kit to test if it is a faulty memory. But I installed all memory stick individually in slot 2 or 4, Hyper and Samsung, all of them failed to boot even on bios.

@boot318 yes I'm using a Windows 7 64bit

Might see about re-seating the CPU, while you have it out check for damaged or bent/missing pins. The memory controllers are on the CPU so if the RAM itself is fine (which it appears to be as I'm assuming you have tried various single sticks with success) then the next thing in line is either connection problems at the DIMM slots, motherboard or CPU socket.

Try putting a pair of DIMMs on the SAME channel and see if it works (in this case, channel A, so slots 1 and 3, right next to each-other furthest from the CPU socket). If it works, I'm not sure what insight that will offer other than I'm thinking that your RAM is probably fine and your channel B isn't working.

ok i will try that

UPDATE: Detached the CPU. Thoroughly check for broken/bent pins and find none. Re-seated back the CPU and still problem occurs. Here's a pic of both memory installed at slot 1 and 2(2x4GB):

Intel(R) IPP JPEG encoder [7.0.1015] - Jan 5 2011;

Here's a screen cap of what the bios reads on that memory config:

It shows the same 4GB whether you have 1 or 2 sticks installed?

Yeah. According to OP it shows 4096MB in the bios when both sticks are installed but withing Windows it shows 6GB as available but 4096MB as usable. Like in the pic above in the first post. I have the very same mobo but I haven't come across this problem.
